Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) at Harvard Kennedy School is a young, dynamic research initiative that brings analytical insights, typically from economics, to the design and implementation of public policies and programs around the world. EPoD directly engages with governments and local organizations to identify key questions, design innovative new policies or interventions, and test these using the tools of applied microeconomics, including large field-based experiments. Current research topics at EPoD include governance, education, entrepreneurship, health, agriculture, sustainable development, and access to finance.
The individual will perform a variety of office/financial and accounting duties within the finance team. Duties range from general administrative responsibilities, such as scanning and filing, to finance and research administration tasks, such as invoice tracking and administrative preparation of sponsored proposals. Performance of duties will encompass the use of a variety of computer software and cloud-based platforms. Supervisor may determine work priorities and review completed work for accuracy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Answering inquiries and provides information to staff on fiscal policies and procedures
Assisting staff, fellows, and faculty members in entering invoices, Citi Corporate Card, Concur, PCard, and credit vouchers for payment or reimbursement
Supporting financial and program staff in preparation of budgets, proposals, and financial reports; reviewing and monitoring financial data and monthly tracking sheets; and assisting financial managers with forecasting and projections
Preparing and assisting finance team with photocopying, printing, and compiling of documents for various financial meetings/trainings/workshops
Typing out business processes, policies and checklists per the direction of supervisor;
Assisting with journals when instructed
Occasional procurement of materials and services, guiding of contracts through internal approval processes, and other administrative matters as needed
Maintaining the general finance team e-mail inbox
Contributing to EPoD’s goals by performing other clerical and operations duties as needed, including occasional logistical support for special projects and programs
This position is based in Cambridge, MA, is not benefits eligible, and can work up to 14 hours per week.
Bachelor's degree and 1-3 year of relevant experience gained through previous positions, internships, or practicums.
Thoroughness, accuracy, and competency managing financial data is a prerequisite. Excellent organizational skills and a customer service mindset is required. Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team. Ability to manage competing priorities with a sense of equanimity and humor. Further, the Financial and Administrative Assistant will have:
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Oracle Applications experience a plus);
Familiarity with Harvard systems, applications and policies preferred;
Strong attention to detail;
Excellent writing, communication and problem-solving skills;
Demonstrated ability to manage regular and unexpected deadlines;
Ability to independently manage time and demonstrate initiative;
Ability to take coaching and direction appropriately;
Proven ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, supervisors and stakeholders (including students, faculty, Central administration, etc.);
Natural curiosity and self-motivated desire to learn and develop new areas of expertise.
Additional Salary Information: Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience.
