Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) at Harvard Kennedy School is a young, dynamic research initiative that brings analytical insights, typically from economics, to the design and implementation of public policies and programs around the world. EPoD directly engages with governments and local organizations to identify key questions, design innovative new policies or interventions, and test these using the tools of applied microeconomics, including large field-based experiments. Current research topics at EPoD include governance, education, entrepreneurship, health, agriculture, sustainable development, and access to finance.
EPoD is currently seeking a Communications Associate responsible for performing a wide range of complex technical and administrative duties related to communications. Under the direction of the Staff Writer and Communications Specialist, the candidate will implement ongoing EPoD online, print, and video communications targeted towards policy and donor audiences. Tasks include the development of web pages in Drupal 8, editing of video, posting on social media, maintaining and developing a large mailing list, producing reports on web and social media traffic, planning and coordinating events, and keeping a detailed editorial calendar. Experience with web design and video editing is necessary, along with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as there is a great deal of coordination with staff, fellows, students, and visitors to compile inputs. The ideal candidate will work independently, anticipate and resolve problems, and update supervisor on status of projects.
This position is based in Cambridge, MA, is not benefits eligible, and can work up to 14 hours per week.
Manage website content, build and redesign pages (using Drupal 8 CMS, as well as edit HTML documents). Coordinate with other web managers at HKS on content sharing and integration. Communicate with EPoD’s web developer, and create a web style sheet.
Develop and design online and print communications materials, brochures, presentations, newsletters, annual reports, and other collateral and presentation materials; make artistic layouts independently under general supervision and within brand guidelines; create and maintain electronic library of photos, data visualizations and other communications-related elements and templates
Edit short videos of events and interviews to and post on website and social media. May develop and manage EPoD’s YouTube channel.
Manage the presence and content of our social media profiles (Twitter, Facebook, blog, etc.) including writing posts.
Create regular reports on web and social media traffic using Google Analytics and other tools.
Maintain and build EPoD’s mailing list of over 5000 recipients. Research platforms for building EPoD’s database, and advise the team on mailing list development.
Plan and coordinate events, including advertising on Harvard channels and EPoD social media, renting out video equipment, recording and editing video, and related tasks.
Manage an editorial calendar outlining weekly strategic promotion of EPoD’s work, research, events, op-eds and new initiatives, coordinating with EPoD staff and students to develop content.

Basic qualifications: 2+ years of communications and/or web design experience. Demonstrated working knowledge of Drupal 8, video editing software, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public-policy or international development related field. An ideal candidate would possess demonstrated knowledge of HMTL and CSS and the ability to create static visualizations using graphical (Illustrator, Photoshop). Experience with Salesforce, Constant Contact, or MailChimp is also an advantage. Excellent organization and communication skills, competencies in all areas of job responsibilities, ability to deliver work results of high quality while managing multiple projects under time pressure, and ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-energy and changing work environment with minimum supervision.
Additional Salary Information: Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience.
