The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans has a newly created Senior Grants Writer opportunity available. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Grants Writer is responsible for managing our grant activity and will oversee our (11) current federal grants and future grants that account for substantial revenue to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV).
Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, located in Wheaton, IL, is an organization whose mission is to end veteran homelessness in northeast Illinois and our neighboring communities, so that no person who has defended our homes goes without a home. Our vision is to ensure that no veteran is left behind due to homelessness, joblessness, and poverty and/or mental-health issues. Key Responsibilities • Ensure grant activity that supports MSHV mission, goals, and strategic planning efforts • Develops outreach and cultivates strategy for government agencies, officials and representatives that make policy and funding decisions that impact MSHV services • Enhance and expand relationships with existing grant makers • Write high quality grant proposals • Responsible for researching and collecting data prior to writing each grant • Submit, and manage grant proposals • Generate reports for funded grants • Manage contract compliance and file maintenance including an ongoing update of all grants and compliance needs, schedules for re-applications and reporting • Oversee grant achievements and track all measurable outcome • Keep up-to-date on relevant funding trends in government, corporate and foundations • Navigate government grant space in homeless/housing models and veteran services • Monitor grant proposals and prepare follow-up reports as required by the grantors • Advocate for homeless veterans by increasing visibility that impact financial resources for MSHV
Qualifications and Preferred Skills • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or University • 3+ years grant writing experience is required. • Previous experience working with veterans or homeless shelters a plus • Excellent communication and writing skills • Previous experience in working with homeless individuals, families, and veterans a plus • Excellent project management skills • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
