The Prospect Research Analyst is responsible for creating, managing, analyzing, and driving all prospect and donor research efforts to help meet operating and capital fundraising goals. Utilizing online databases, the Internet, standard development research texts and directories, he/she will obtain biographical and financial information on individuals, corporations and foundations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to inquiries and produce written donor briefings and reports for a diverse group including advancement professionals, faculty, staff, and University administration.
Develop and write concise and relevant prospect profiles, providing in-depth biographical data, financial/net worth analysis, indicators of possible philanthropic interest and intent of potential donors.
Through data-mining, identify new prospects (alumni, parents, friends, and corporations) utilizing best research practices and methodologies.
Actively participate in moves management strategies to meet Advancement fundraising goals.
Facilitate and lead regular prospect review meetings with gift officers and make assignment recommendations.
Ensure complete, accurate, and timely maintenance of information stored in the Advancement database (Colleague Advancement) when appropriate and in conjunction with research and Office of Advancement policy.
Maintain relationships with various resource providers (i.e. LexisNexis, ResearchPoint, etc.)
Stay current in the field of prospect research through networking with other professionals and participation in professional development activities. Maintain an understanding of and competency in the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Basic and Advanced Skill Sets.
Research timely and appropriate grant funding sources for University needs upon request.
Provide support for University programs and events in line with institutional priorities.
Participate in ongoing or future system upgrades as it relates to the prospect research function including evaluation and implementation of new systems.
As part of the Advancement Team, participation in Advancement and University events may require nights and weekends.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required by the Assistant Vice President for Advancement and the Senior Director of Advancement Operations and Programs.
Bachelors' degree or commensurate experience in research or a related field required.
Ability to understand wealth indicators and interpret wealth into ratings and ask amounts required.
Ability to understand and follow current philanthropic trends a must.
Must be a self-starter and problem solver, with the ability to work with a variety of people.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and high attention to detail a must.
High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion required.
Proven ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making required.
Proficient with computers and complex databases. Highly skilled with internet searches and a working knowledge of MS Office.
