Reports to: Head of Middle School & Director of Wellness
The Middle School Guidance Counselor provides social-emotional wellness guidance and consultation to students, their families, and the faculty in support of the students’ well-being, in support of the overall school mission, and in accordance with Saint Andrew’s policies. The guidance counselor works together with the Head of Middle School, Director of Wellness, Dean of Students, Learning Specialist(s), and the teaching faculty in both promoting and responding to the needs of individual students and the student body as a whole.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct services to students including crisis intervention with individuals and groups of students and short-term individual counseling as needed
Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and other communications appropriate to ethical and professional standards
Guide and support parents in the process of finding the best resources for their child
Develop, facilitate, and coordinate proactive and reactive programs, workshops, and other training opportunities for students, families, and faculty that address current adolescent issues
Develop knowledge of, and a working relationship with, outside referral sources including mental health professionals
Work in concert with the Middle School Learning Specialist(s) to address the needs of students with social, emotional, and academic concerns
Serve as a member of the school's SAFETI (Saint Andrew’s Formative, Educative, and Therapeutic Intervention) Team
Collaborate with the Guidance Counselors in Upper and Lower School for vertical programming, resources, and other supports
Teaching and/or coaching opportunities may be available
Other duties as assigned by the Head of the Middle School and Director or Wellness
The candidate must be a licensed (or license eligible) counselor in the state of Florida.
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or related field is required.
Doctoral degree and three years clinical experience is preferred.
