The Board of Directors of Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) invites applications for the position of CEO. The Board has contracted with NRECA’s Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
Nueces Electric (www.NuecesElectric.org) is an electric distribution cooperative established in 1938 with headquarters in Corpus Christi, Texas. The cooperative serves approximately 26,000 meters in eight South Texas counties surrounding the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast. NEC is the only Texas electric co-op which opted into the competitive electric market. NEC Co-op Energy (www.NECCoopEnergy.com), an affiliate of Nueces Electric Cooperative, serves the retail electric power needs of over 27,000 additional consumers across Texas. NEC has approximately 80 employees, is governed by a board of ten directors elected by the members and has annual revenue in excess of $108 million. The cooperative has just over 3,200 miles of energized distribution and transmission lines and holds a contract with the U.S. Navy to maintain the distribution systems for two area Naval Air Stations.
The successful candidate must to be able to communicate effectively with a diverse audience, owners as well as team members, by using excellent people skills while representing the coop in the community. A firm grasp of the electric utility industries’ evolving legislative and regulatory challenges is critical. Candidates must be proven leaders with strong management, mentoring and team building experience. They must demonstrate an ability to lead the safety, strategic, risk management, operational, customer service and financial planning functions required of an electric cooperative with competitive retail operations. Demonstrated progressive career advancement, a minimum 10 years of utility experience with at least 5 years of senior management experience in the electric industry is essential. An understanding and respect of the cooperative principles and business model is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a related field with a desire to continue learning is preferred.
NEC’s headquarters is in northwest Corpus Christi, Texas with a metropolitan population of over 450,000. Corpus Christi is home to the Port of Corpus Christi, one of the largest ports in the United States; it provides endless blue skies year-round, a bay front promenade, relaxing, clean beaches, and an arts and museum district; the area is also recognized as a top fishing and hunting destination in the country. An international airport services the area with major carriers. The area is home to several institutions of higher learning, including Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University – Kingsville.
