Network Architecture is part of UMKC's Information Services division and provides the following services to our customers:
Campus & branch office local area networks
Campus & branch office wireless networks
Campus & branch office telephone service
Connectivity to the Internet and global research networks
Department level private networks and firewalls
Video, web & audio conferencing
IP address management, DNS & DHCP services
This position will support and maintain the UMKC's wireless networks to ensure faculty, staff and students have reliable network connectivity.
As a wireless network engineer within Network Architecture, you can expect to perform the following duties and more:
Operation and maintenance of Cisco wireless controllers, access points and other network services
Troubleshoot wireless connectivity issues with University owned and personal devices including laptops, tablets, smart devices and cell phones
Design, configure and install wireless networks
Operation and maintenance of Network Access Control system
Understand customer needs and provide customer focused solutions
Complete IT projects by coordinating resources and timelines with departmental goals
Help formulate and implement IT policies and procedures for improved service levels
Administrative experience with Cisco wireless infrastructure including servers, applications, access points and wireless controllers
Experience performing wireless site surveys, Ekahau experience preferred
Administrative experience with authentication servers, Radius and TACACS
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or 3 years relevant experience
Operations experience in an organization with 200+ users
Administration of Windows & Linux server operating systems
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, sharing information and coordinating efforts
Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of users and technical staff.
Ability to give occasional presentations to peers and other internal audiences
Ability to work under pressure, meet inflexible deadlines, deal with difficult individuals and maintain composure
Availability for occasional work during night and weekend maintenance windows
CCNA Routing & Switching, Network+ or CCNA Wireless certifications a plus but not required
