Engineering Research Operations (ERO) within the College of Engineering oversees the business, finance, and grant activity for 9 interdisciplinary research centers. ERO provides centralized ancillary support services including fiscal administration, human resources management, grant/proposal oversight, capital planning and facilities management, and budget planning/forecasting. ERO serves as the business liaison between the centers and college administration, while ensuring adherence to University business policies and practices. As our research centers expand their reach into new technologies, capabilities, and collaborative partnerships we aim to develop strategic communications which widely promote our initiatives and successes.
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will provide leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of internal and external marketing and communications efforts for assigned College Research Centers (CRCs) within Engineering Research Operations (ERO). This position is responsible for establishment and ongoing communications and marketing management that increases visibility by planning, managing and executing news and information strategies to requisite audiences. This role will lead the development and implementation of long-range strategic plans for innovative delivery of communications and marketing including publication programs, public relations, print and graphic media, video and web communications, digital and social media, and media support for special events. This position will research, write, edit and distribute press releases and news items for assigned centers. This position will conduct interviews, research topics, and write articles, as well as write and manage the content and quality of the print and electronic communications in close collaboration with Center and ERO leadership teams. This position will lead efforts to improve the visibility of both ERO CRCs and Engineering Research Administration. It will create, edit and procure brochures, posters and promotional flyers, as well as manage social media presence to leverage brand-recognition. This position will produce and oversee updates and maintenance of center websites and create content that will motivate users to regularly utilize the center websites and social media, as a source of information. This role is responsible to ensure quality and consistency of information, use a content management system and collaborate with technical experts to troubleshoot, as needed. This position works closely with the College of Engineering (CoE) Communications Office to collaborate on tactics for benefit of center, college and university as a whole. In addition, this role coordinates with the CoE Communications team to establish and sustain design standards for center communication materials, ensure compliance with CoE and university branding rules and guidelines. The position is responsible to advocate for the University’s brand integrity and disseminate appropriate messaging to a broad range of audiences and stakeholders. This position will supervise and direct student employees in the execution of the marketing and advertising materials and the supporting activities, as well as perform special projects and other job duties as assigned.
Success in this role will require enthusiasm for client based mindset for marketing and communications coordination, working with stakeholders and varying audiences. This will require a desire and aptitude to learn quickly and develop and maintain a unique visual brand for the assigned research centers through direct management with invested stakeholders and customers.

Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications, marketing or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven track record of executing marketing strategy and tactics of both print and electronic forms, including, but not limited to press releases, social media, websites and various print media. Experience with electronic communication and marketing campaigns, (e.g. social media, website, and email). Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications, including InDesign and Illustrator.
Marketing experience in an institutional or industry Research and Development environment. Knowledge of OSU branding guidelines. Experience in photography and or videography. Experience with website content management systems. Special event coverage preferred.
Target Salary: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 Annually
