Under the direction of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant is responsible for the general accounting functions of the institution. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Prepare and post all monthly journal entries. Perform ongoing accounting functions including balancing general ledger, bank reconciliations, and month-end account reconciliations.
Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements. Prepare and distribute additional financial statements for ad hoc programs and activities performed at MIC on a regular basis.
Ensure revenue is properly recognized on a weekly/monthly basis; identify and resolve variances.
Work closely with program directors and senior management to review financial statements and assist with achieving budget objectives by analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions where necessary.
Collect and analyze data to generate reports on performance-related issues.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Assist CFO in preparation of financial forecasts
Prepare internal materials for the annual audit, state and federal filings, and other annual or periodic reports.
Provide back-up support for Accounting Associate, including A/P, cash deposits, A/P coding and data entry.
Perform ad hoc projects/tasks as requested by the CFO and other duties as assigned.
Bachelor degree in accounting or related field
Minimum of 5 years experience in an accounting role
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Experience working in a multi-layered organization
Experience With Blauckbaud/Financial Edge preferred

The successful candidate will be a highly organized self- starter who maintains a high standard of work, sound business judgment and can interact effectively with colleagues. She or he will welcome the opportunity to perform the hands-on duties of the Senior Accountant.
