CVEC (Central Virginia Electric Cooperative) is looking to hire a Line Technician in our Palmyra Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing all duties associated with the installation, rearrangement, operation, maintenance and removal of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; in accordance with CVEC safety rules, policies and practices.
The following essential job duties are required to be performed, with the level of supervision appropriate to the employee's training, ability, and experience:
Fits up and assembles pole framing and other equipment.
Operates trucks and derricks, augers, aerial devices, pulling machines, tension machines, and winches.
Patrols and inspects distribution and transmission circuits.
Reads, installs and removes meters.
Keeps records as required.
Observes and reports unsafe conditions and practices.
Maintains rights-of-way on de-energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes transformers, reclosers, regulators, capacitors, etc., on de-energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes poles, conductors and framing on de-energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes street lighting equipment on de-energized circuits.
Climbs poles and structures and goes aloft on de-energized circuits.
Replaces transformer fuses and circuit fuses on energized circuits.
Performs switching operations on distribution and transmission circuits.
Performs switching operations in substations.
Maintains rights-of-way on energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes transformers, reclosers, regulators, capacitors, etc., on energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes poles, conductors and framing on energized circuits.
Installs, maintains and removes street lighting equipment on energized circuits.
Climbs poles and structures and goes aloft on energized circuits.
Uses specialized hot line tools on energized circuits.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Successful Completion of an Accredited Line Technician (Lineman) Training Center Preferred; Minimum Completion of training program 1 Required
Qualification through examination and performance appraisal as determined by the CVEC.
Must have CDL, First Aid / CPR / AED certification, VDOT Workzone Safety, pole top rescue, bucket truck rescue, and Fork Truck certifications as well as basic computer skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the CVEC standards applying to employee's work.
Knowledge of blueprint reading sufficient to interpret and apply information from drawings, instruction manuals and one-line diagrams etc.
Must be able to navigate CVEC map system on a tablet
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form
Ability to interact with customers and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
Must be available for planned and emergency overtime as required.
Must be available for on-call rotation.
Must live within 30 driving miles of Palmyra CVEC Division Office
Must be able to pass pre-employment: background check, physical, and drug/alcohol testing
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers license within six (6) months of date of hire.
Must successfully complete required coursework in VMDAEC apprenticeship program.
Salary Range: $19.62-$29.24 per hour/depending on experience
