Associate Dean for the Baccalaureate Program - (190000K6)
The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON), is currently seeking nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean for the Baccalaureate Program. This 12-month faculty position includes .5 administrative effort. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of UMSON. The position is integral to admission, advisement, progression and graduation of students, and to curricular program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Founded in 1889, UMSON is one of the oldest and largest schools of nursing in the United States. It enrolls more than 1,900 students in its baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programs; the master's program ranks 12 th and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program ranks 6 th in the 2020 US News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools." UMSON is ranked 9 th among public schools of nursing and 16 th among all schools of nursing for receipt of National Institutes of Health funding.
The School of Nursing's Baccalaureate Program enrolls more than 800 students at two locations: in Baltimore City, Maryland on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB); and at the Universities at Shady Grove, in Rockville, Maryland, a unique campus offering degree programs from nine Maryland public universities.
UMSON is part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's 72 acre graduate professional campus that includes the schools of medicine, dentistry, social work, pharmacy, and law - and an interdisciplinary Graduate School. Provides vision and leadership for academic excellence in a collegial atmosphere within the context of UMSON's mission and strategic initiatives
Facilitates innovative program development and integration of technology to shape the implementation, evaluation, and ongoing quality assurance of the baccalaureate program
Ensures that the baccalaureate program incorporates feedback from stakeholders, including health care facilities, regulatory agencies, and other institutions of higher learning
Mentors faculty members in their role as educators of baccalaureate students and in their scholarly efforts
Supports faculty members in their scholarship and service activities, particularly in relation to work with entry-level students
Stays abreast of and advises on a wide array of academic issues and policies impacting the baccalaureate program, faculty, students, and the environment in which they learn
Encourages innovation and risk taking
Articulates trends, is open to the ideas of others, and encourages appropriate action
Seeks external funding for academic initiatives for the baccalaureate program
Supports the University's efforts to advance interprofessional education
Develops partnerships with other academic institutions and health care organizations to facilitate transition of transfer students and graduates of associate degree programs into the baccalaureate program
Demonstrates sound decision making, strong managerial skills, effective communication skills, and a commitment to diversity
Embraces a participatory leadership style framed by the University's and UMSON's core values of accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership
Fosters a climate of shared governance, respect, and collegiality
Contributes to the advancement of UMSON's teaching, scholarship, and service missions
Serves as chair of the Entry-Level Course Directors Committee
Earned doctorate in nursing or a related field
Master's degree in nursing if doctoral degree is in a related field
Current license or eligibility to practice nursing in Maryland
Prior experience in curriculum development and academic administrative experience
