The Intercollegiate Athletics Department is seeking an experienced coach to oversee and manage UMKC's Division I Softball team. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
Recruiting : identifies prospective student-athletes whom are qualified for admission to a strong academic environment with UMKC; effectively communicates with prospective student-athletes; effectively communicates and coordinates recruitment efforts with recruiting coordinator. This position will initiate and drive scouting and recruitment of student-athletes, for both on-campus and off-campus visits.
Coaching/Student-Athlete Experience: Must have experience as a coach or athlete in softball demonstrates strong knowledge of sport skills, strategies and philosophy; promotes student-athlete welfare and provides appropriate mentoring to student-athletes and assistant coaches. Ability to effectively teach and coach students in both a team and individual setting. Coaches student-athletes, to include evaluating their performance in both practice and competition, and providing leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies, as required; monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes in conjunction with the strength & conditioning coaches and athletic training staff; participate in public relations activities, as approved, to include granting interviews with newspapers, radio and television media, attending press conferences and making public appearances; development of schedules for practice and competition; cooperate with all coaches and administrative staff in order to enhance overall departmental performance.
Administrative : operates within all University, Western Athletic Conference and NCAA Division I guidelines; responsible for the coordination of all practice schedules; monthly community service events, assist with maintaining equipment inventory, assist with carrying out team travel demands according to established policies and procedures; effectively communicates with the Assistant Coaches and Athletics staff on matters pertaining to the softball program, maintains and engages in upholding student-athlete welfare, ability to engage team members in academic accountability, upholds academic integrity, disciplinary and/or personal matters; a commitment to providing a positive role model and leadership to the team as well as excellent communication skills are required. Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the University and its programs, personnel, and philosophies.
A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Two to three years of successful coaching or playing experience in one or more areas of athlete development/administration/team recruitment for softball.
