Position Summary THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH POLICY AND MANAGEMENT, UNC GILLINGS SCHOOL OF GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH, UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL is seeking applicants for two open rank, fixed-term faculty positions. Rank (which may include Professor of the Practice) will be consistent with qualifications and experience.
We seek faculty members who can teach two or more of the following graduate-level courses: (1) U.S. Health Care System; (2) Advanced Health Policy Analysis and Health Policy Advocacy; (3) Underserved Populations and Health Reform; (4) Financial Management and Analysis for Public and Nonprofit Entities; (5) Health Law; and (6) Leadership and Management of Health Care. We seek people interested in teaching in both residential and online formats.
In addition to teaching, the selected applicants would be expected to advise and mentor students (including research papers). The applicants may also have the opportunity to serve as the Health Policy Concentration Lead for the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program (https://sph.unc.edu/resource-pages/master-of-public-health/). The Gillings MPH is for people who are passionate about solving urgent public health problems. The Health Policy concentration prepares students to participate in policy development, implementation, evaluation, and policy advocacy within governmental and non-governmental agencies. The Health Policy concentration includes both a residential and distance program. The Health Policy Concentration Lead would coordinate Program activities both within the Department and across other concentrations in the School of Public Health.
In addition to the Health Policy Concentration in the Gillings MPH, the Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. The MPH is available residentially and the School offers an online option. The MHA is offered in both residential and executive (non-residential hybrid) formats. The DrPH is an executive format.
The Department currently has approximately 40 full-time faculty and over 100 joint and adjunct faculty. The health services research base is strong and growing. The teaching program is outstanding and dynamic with substantial ongoing investment in excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. Successful applicants will join a multidisciplinary faculty and will actively contribute to the department through teaching and service.
Although some portion of teaching may be in online classes, this position requires relocation to UNC-CH and full-time participation on-site. Successful applicants could participate in funded research for a small portion of their time, if desired. Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled. The anticipated start date will be as early as January 2020 or when the position is filled.
Educational Requirements A Master’s or doctoral degree (preferred) in health policy and management, public health, public policy, law (i.e., Juris Doctorate), or a related field.
Experience and interest in advising and mentoring students.
Experience overseeing practicums and capstone projects in diverse organizations.
Experience with teaching in a distance format.
Experience conducting health policy development, implementation, evaluation, advocacy and/or policy-relevant research. Settings may include not-for-profit organizations, government (local, state, national) or universities.
