Professor of Practice in Data Science, Machine Learning
Applications are invited from experienced professionals in Data Science and Machine Learning for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position as the Secunda Family Professor of Practice in the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech in New York City. The position carries a three-year renewable term.
Our modern digital world generates enormous amounts of data, and Data Science plays a crucial role in helping us understand the phenomena from which the data arises and in creating tools and techniques for extracting value from it. Machine Learning science and technology is critical to effective use of data in a variety of settings, and is essential in facilitating the practical success of artificial intelligence systems. Following Cornell Tech's mission of integrating technology, business, law and design in service of economic impact and societal good, and the Jacobs Institute's emphasis on transdisciplinary, translational, out-of-the-box research, we take a broad and multi-faceted view of Data Science and of Machine Learning. Both are essential pillars supporting our efforts in health tech, connective media, cybersecurity, the built environment, financial technology, and other critical application domains. Elements of security and privacy, as well as ethical uses of data, are also important to us.
We seek a candidate with extensive, successful experience with applications of Data Science and/or Machine Learning and a track record of excellence in research and applications as well as demonstrated teaching excellence - a candidate who can complement and enhance our current world-class faculty. Prior success may be manifested through impactful industrial research, academic research, technology transfer, or entrepreneurial endeavors. Successful candidates will provide a strong contribution to teaching at the Master's degree level, and will be expected to contribute to mentoring/advising of class and entrepreneurial projects. The ideal Professor of Practice will also collaborate with faculty on innovative research and external engagement, lending a key real-world perspective to our efforts.
The Professor of Practice will be able to leverage Cornell Tech expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence and decision-making, human/computer interaction, security and privacy, and operations research, and tap into Cornell Tech's unique network of collaborations that include Cornell University in Ithaca, NY; the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel; Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City; and key elements of the rich ecosystem of New York City.

About Cornell Tech and The Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute
Founded as a unique joint venture between Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute is an integral academic partner at Cornell Tech, the revolutionary model for graduate education established as a result of the City of New York's 2010 challenge to create a new or expanded applied science and engineering campus. Cornell Tech focuses on creating pioneering leaders and technologies for the digital age, through research, technology commercialization, and graduate-level education at the professional masters, doctoral and postdoctoral levels.
As a cornerstone of Cornell Tech, the Jacobs Institute shares the same broad mission. Faculty and graduate students collaborate on research and share resources seamlessly across programs. Nonetheless, the Institute has its own unique mission as well - to embody the collaboration between Cornell and the Technion and to energetically push the boundaries of academia. The Jacobs Institute emphasizes a transdisciplinary view of science and encourages translational research that ultimately serves the worldwide common good, through a set of industry-focused "hubs" that address contemporary social and economic need around which key programs and initiatives are centered. Jacobs also supports innovative entrepreneurial efforts in deep technology through its Runway Startup Postdoc Program. As an independent entity, the Institute is afforded the autonomy to expand the boundaries of academia without the constraints of a traditional university structure, allowing radical experimentation with research, degree programs, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
