The City of Lubbock seeks a creative, collaborative servant leader and strategic thinker to be its new Chief Building Official (CBO). This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities of the Building Safety Department. The incumbent provides necessary leadership to ensure that the primary functions of the department, including contractor licensing and regulation, construction plan review and permit issuance, field inspection services, administrative and technical support, and all ancillary and liaison activities are carried out in an efficient and professional manner. The CBO reports to, advises, and provides technical and administrative support to the Director of Development Services.
The selected candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in public administration, engineering, architecture, or a related field and have five to seven years of additional progressively responsible experience in building design, construction, or a municipal building department, including management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. A valid current driver’s license and certification through the International Code Council, Inc. as a Certified Building Official (or ability to obtain within one year) are required.
