Reporting to the Associate Controller, the staff accountant is responsible for reviewing general ledger accounts; preparing and adjusting journal entries; performing account analysis and reconciliations; and assisting with financial reporting. This position will also support the payroll processing cycle.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Perform monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and expense accounts as assigned.
Prepare and post monthly standard journal entries. Responsible for researching and processing corrective entries on accounts assigned.
Prepare schedules to support internal and external financial reporting in compliance with standard accounting principles and practices to ensure reliability of financial data.
Support the month-end and year-end close process.
Serves as a liaison to student government organizations and other agency organizations and addressing any questions or issues that arise.
Process weekly and semi-monthly payrolls in a support or backup role.
Prepares and balances periodic tax files. Reconciles the Quarterly 941 and state tax filings and annual W-2 processing.
Manages Windstar system for non-resident aliens, enters information, and ensures proper tax forms are executed by NRA students, faculty, and staff.
Identify operational challenges, process improvements, and propose solutions while documenting processes and best practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
Experience working with ERP and time-reporting systems; able to evolve and adapt to system changes
Proficient in Excel, with experience using other applications in the MS Office Suite (e.g. Word
Ability to work collaboratively; customer-oriented approach
Ability to multi-task and prioritize; work independently and in a team environment
Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change
