Albright College is seeking a Dean to provide academic leadership of the School of Professional Studies (SPS). A regional leader in the development of accelerated degree completion programs, our current offerings include offering six B.S. degrees at seven locations, a general studies degree start curriculum, as well as Masters degrees in education, and three certificates. Course delivery systems include face-to- face, online and hybrid. The Dean will be the academic and administrative leader for SPS and will serve as a key member of the Faculty and Academic Affairs Team, through the opportunity to lead the school in our strategic planning process. The Dean is responsible for ensuring that programs fulfill their mission in terms of faculty and academic excellence by providing oversight of course, program, and curricular assessment to provide academic pathways for non-traditional students as well as students pursuing graduate and certificate education.
The Dean of SPS oversees market research and program development on behalf of SPS.
Market Research – Leads market research for all new program development and program revisions taking place across the School. Will evaluate current market research practices within the School and will implement new processes and tools as necessary to continually improve the market research process and to follow changes and best practices. Market research will include quantitative and qualitative work.
Program Development– Oversees the program development process for the School and leads the program development process for credit-bearing programs specifically. This work follows from the market research component of the Dean’s role and includes concept identification/validation, research and engagement with stakeholders, and curriculum design. Responsible for writing proposals for new credit-bearing degree/certificate programs as needed and successfully navigating them through the College’s approval processes, including making presentations to various approval bodies. Responsible for becoming the school’s expert on College governance procedures, and accreditation and compliance issues as they pertain to new program launch.
Program Review and Redesign – Works closely with School leadership to design and implement a thorough program review process to constantly monitor the health of existing academic programs, to identify opportunities to improve or redirect academic programs, and to pivot programs as needed. Leads any market analysis work that is required and will be responsible for developing a holistic review of the business side of academic programs (in partnership with the Provost, who will lead the academic portion of the review).
External Program Review Process – Serves as the primary liaison with the Office of the Provost for external program reviews that take place each year. Includes serving as a project management resource for academic programs undergoing the review.
The Dean is responsible for leading and managing the human and fiscal resources and physical facilities of the School, and is an advocate for students, faculty, and staff. The Dean is the primary spokesperson for the School on the campus, in the community and beyond, and works collaboratively to ensure productive community support and programmatic input. The Dean is expected to engage in collaborative efforts with faculty committees, department chairs, and industry/community partners to advance the College’s Strategic Plan. In addition, the Dean works cooperatively with College advancement in the continuing efforts to foster and maintain relationships with alumni and donors.
An earned doctorate (PD. or Ed.D.) or other appropriate terminal degree
History of increasing administrative leadership in higher education
The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty and administrators in a student- centered environment
Demonstrated ability to manage accelerated academic programs that employ face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities
Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate faculty, including adjunct and part-time faculty evaluations
Multiple years’ experience teaching and advising, preferably at the college lev
Experience as a Dean or similar leadership position
Experience with graduate programs, in particular Education
Experience with programs for non-traditional students
Experience with successful grant writing
Demonstrated experience with program development
Understanding and experience with market research and demand analysis strongly desired.
Strong analytical skills
Excellent writing and communication skills
Experience in managing projects that integrate different areas of an organization
Ability to utilize project management tracking tools.
Advanced knowledge of relevant Microsoft Office products.
