Binghamton University is looking for a Software Developer to join our Information Technology Services Innovation Team. The Innovation Team is responsible for the rapid development of sophisticated libraries, tools, and applications to better and more efficiently serve the Binghamton University campus community. Additionally, the Innovation Team contributes to and maintains a sizable catalog of Open Source software which serves as the backbone of many of Binghamton's core applications and business processes.
The Software Developer will work closely with the other members of the ITS Innovation and Enterprise Applications teams on a wide variety of projects. Work may be independent or as part of a larger team.
The individual will be responsible for:
Developing web based "micro" applications and web services
Developing components and modules of large web based systems
Documenting business processes and requirements
Related software development duties
The Software Developer reports to the Assistant Director of Innovation & Research, and will work closely with Administrative and Academic departments, the campus community, and other key groups/staff members within Information Technology Services (ITS).
The applicant should provide (as part of their application materials), and be ready to present on, a portfolio of work relevant to this position. The applicant should be a strong problem solver, capable of doing and independently learning things they've never done or seen before, and without need for significant external assistance.
Highly Proficient in web technologies including:
HTML / Bootstrap / Templating
Experience using one or more server-side "MVC" Frameworks
Experience with Relational / NoSQL Databases
Experience Using Version Control
Experience writing and integrating with web services
A portfolio of web applications / projects which demo required skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical skills, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and ability to deal with ambiguity in a changing business environment
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Sciences or a related field
Experience with PHP / Laravel
Experience using an ORM (object relationship mapping) tool such as Eloquent
Experience using git
Experience in working in a large complex organization
Experience working in higher education or a research environment
