The Division of Oncology in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Program Operations Specialist.
This Program Operations Specialist will support the research mission of the Institute for Prostate Cancer Research (IPCR) which integrates the prostate cancer research activities underway at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The IPCR is led by a Director and Steering Committee to oversee IPCR activities, working closely with the Fred Hutch and UW Medicine development teams supporting fundraising efforts and prioritizing the allocation of funds to research and infrastructure projects. The Program Manager will support the effective implementation of research and research funding to assisting IPCR leadership in financial planning and tracking, development of protocols and procedures, writing of technical reports, and integrating collaboration and communication with research personnel. The Program Manager will interact with a spectrum of researchers and clinical faculty in the academic Departments and Divisions across UW Medicine and Fred Hutch, patient advocates, industry partners, and philanthropists. The Program Manager will also interact with the Seattle Tumor Translational Research program to align prostate cancer research with research involving other cancer types at Fred Hutch and UW Medicine.

The Institute for Prostate Cancer Research (IPCR) is a collaborative effort between the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FredHutch) with clinical research and care also delivered at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The mission of the IPCR is to advance cutting edge research activities undertaken by the Prostate Cancer Research Program of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium. There are approximately 40 scientists and physician researchers in the Prostate Cancer Research Program, who collaborate to defeat prostate cancer. IPCR investigators conduct research spanning all facets of prostate cancer including prevention, detection, hereditary and environmental risk, localized therapy, imaging, immunotherapy, treatment for advanced cancer, basic mechanisms of cancer biology and the development of new model systems and technologies.
The Department of Medicine is committed to the goals and mission of the IPCR, the School of Medicine, and the University. This position supports the collaborative effort for fundraising and development to support the research activities of the Prostate Cancer Research Program.
I. Overall Project Management and Strategic Operations
In conjunction with the Program Director, set program goals, develop strategic plan, develop budgets and project plans to achieve operating goals. Provide project management, strategic planning and budgeting support to the overall mission of the IPCR and integration with other aspects of prostate cancer research funded by research grants and industry. Routinely monitor and report on progress relative to project objectives. Identify impediments to progress and recommend solutions to faculty and administrative leaders. Evaluate and report on long-term project needs and progress. Provide project support as needed (e.g., support team leads, assist with hiring processes, equipment purchases and implementation). Understand and ensure compliance with University and partner institution regulations that govern the activities of the IPCR and Prostate Cancer Research Program. Manage resource/cost allocation of IPCR funds to sub-projects and budgets.
Facilitate transparency and communications among stakeholders. Assist the IPCR leadership and IPCR-supported investigators in communicating with IPCR and prostate cancer program faculty about the project’s goals and progress. Organize and staff project meetings, including meetings with community providers in support of network development. Work with development/advancement staff to assure effective communication of project goals and achievements to the donor/philanthropy community. Prepare Quarterly and Annual progress reports to keep stakeholders apprised of initiative status and progress. Expand IPCR’s presence and image in key social media sites working under the direction of IPCR leadership. Keep site content updated and post daily updates, links and references. Utilize social media tools to perform outreach within the social media site to increase user viewership and awareness of IPCR’s initiatives. Facilitate scientist and researcher responses to questions and posts from site users.
III. Patient Advocacy
Engage with patient advocacy groups and provide support for speakers and other events in the furtherance of prostate cancer patient support, help coordinate or facilitate events.
In conjunction with the Program Director, set program goals, develop strategic plan, develop budgets and project plans to achieve operating goals.
Establish and assure adherence to program priorities and deadlines based on group goals and institutional demands.
Understand and ensure compliance with University and partner institution regulations that govern the activities of the IPCR and Prostate Cancer Research Program

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Science, or Health-related field plus four to five years:
Project leadership experience using proven methodologies for implementing projects
Experience with preparing budgets and financial reports
Experience developing multi-media presentations and coordinating brand messaging
Experience leading large and complex projects
Demonstrated proficiency in desktop and project management tools
Strong human relations and interpersonal skills, with the ability to direct and motivate the work of others
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and planning skills, and the ability to effectively negotiate/resolve issues
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work a flexible schedule and be on-call for after-hours work commitments, if necessary
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or related field
Project Management Certification (PMP)
Experience in a healthcare or clinical research environment
Experience working with clinicians, faculty, clinical and research leadership
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate complex clinical, technical or scientific updates and feedback from scientific leaders into clear and unambiguous implementation plans, PowerPoint presentations and status reports that may be presented to non-scientific audiences, including management, advancement staff, donors and the community at large.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends to meet deadlines
Willing to work beyond a normal work week (more than 40 hours a week), depending on implementation deadlines.
Qualified candidates must be self-motivated.
Local travel is required and some travel across WA State may be necessary
