AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. The Institute Registry & Outcomes Nurse collaborates with clinical departments across the organization to help improve quality and outcomes captured to meet national registry guidelines and regulatory requirements. The nurse is responsible for ensuring all clinical outcomes accurately reflect the care provided by all hospitals within AdventHealth Orlando to allow for accurate public reporting. The nurse utilizes previous clinical experience and knowledge to review and make inferences of clinical care, to submit required elements to national registries. The nurse serves as the clinical content expert, within assigned specialty, to review patient health status across the continuum including patient interviews, medical record review, and post-acute tracking as assigned. The nurse is responsible to alert leadership of potential clinical variability or discrepancies of documentation to ensure patients receive evidence-based care. The nurse is responsible for validating and submitting registry harvest reports on behalf of all AdventHealth Orlando facilities (as assigned) to meet regulatory and registry compliance guidelines. The nurse actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Strong understanding of complex medical conditions and surgical procedures to make clinical judgements on appropriateness of clinical care to measure quality and outcomes
Ability to make independent decisions when considering a broad range of internal/external clinical variables to adhere to national guidelines
Effectively coordinates multiple priorities and issues to meet registry submission deadlines
Must be able to function independently with little or no supervision, including remote locations
Exceptional planning, management, and organizational skills
Effective communication skills with ability to communicate with physicians, leadership, front line team members, and patients
Ability to coordinate complex assignments independently
Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access) (Preferred)
Knowledge of clinical registries, such as: American College of Cardiology (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR), American College of Surgeons (ACoS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), Get with the Guidelines (GWTG), and Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Database (Preferred)
Knowledge of various electronic medical records such as Cerner, Lumedx, Athena (Preferred)
Graduate of school of nursing (RN)
7 years of specialized nursing experience including, but not limited to: critical care, catheterization lab, operating room, recovery room, and other similar settings
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or other healthcare related discipline (Preferred)
Clinical experience working in a quaternary care hospital system (Preferred)
Experience with national clinical registries as referenced above (Preferred)
CMS regulatory requirements (Preferred)
Surgical Clinical Reviewer (SCR) Training (Preferred)
Data analytics experience, including data analysis and registry harvest (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Current, valid State of Florida license as a registered professional nurse (RN)

Responsible for identification of potential clinical registry candidates, confirmation of eligibility and enrollment of patients according to national registry guidelines. This ensures compliance with required federal and state requirements for registry participation as a condition for Medicare reimbursement.
Responsible for serving as clinical content expert to accurately complete registry elements utilizing information from patient interviews, medical records and other data sources to ensure accurate abstraction in compliance with nationally recognized quality patient care processes and clinical outcomes. Uses critical thinking and independent judgement when conflicting clinical information is present to determine appropriate categorization of data elements and outcomes. This may include making clinical inferences with autonomy to accurately capture all required metrics
Completes longitudinal patient follow-up as assigned by interviewing and assessing patient health status to meet regulatory and registry requirements. During patient assessments, must be comfortable navigating complex patient needs and referring to appropriate provider for further care. Rigorously maintains accurate databases to ensure follow-up deadlines are met according to registry requirements. Utilizes multiple avenues to obtain follow-up such as phone calls, physician office visits, written communication, and other outpatient sources.
Accountable for identifying any potential clinical variability or discrepancies of documentation that vary from national guidelines and benchmarks. These instances are escalated to leadership to allow for timely intervention and feedback to front line clinicians.
Maintains professional work environment that is conducive to achieving accuracy and productivity goals. Completes independent validation of variances prior to registry submission and enrollment. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet registry harvest deadlines as required by national and regulatory bodies.
Responsible for validating and submitting registry harvest reports on behalf of all facilities in AdventHealth Orlando (as assigned) to meet regulatory and registry compliance guidelines. Including responsibility for ensuring data accurately depicts performance for publicly reported measures to CMS and other governing entities. Supports outcomes necessary for center of excellence and public reported performance recognition.
Responsible for seeking opportunities to maintain clinical expertise to incorporate latest developments and trends related to assigned registry and national clinical guidelines. Attends educational, registry, or other conferences and training as appropriate.
Assists in the training and development of new team members to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of registry abstraction. Assists in the development of training programs and curriculum for bedside clinicians (including physicians) to improve quality and patient outcomes.
Adheres to hospital policy for protecting patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines
