Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Rights and Responsibilities The Dean of Students Office at Whittier College seeks an Assistant Dean of Student/Director of Rights and Responsibilities. Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean will provide leadership to the student conduct system with the focus on individual and community responsibility and student learning. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the College's Title IX Coordinator and is part of the 24-hour emergency on-call rotation. Working with campus colleagues and stakeholders, the Assistant Dean will contribute to developing effective, educational outreach initiatives related to student rights and responsibilities and sexual misconduct. The incumbent will be expected to engage all students in helping strengthen a diverse and inclusive environment and serve as an advocate, resource, and proactive catalyst to advance the College's mission in the areas of student support.
The Assistant Dean provides strategic planning and implementation of programs and services and is responsible for delivering services to students that promote their academic and personal development. These services include providing administrative direction and intervention for crisis and non-crisis situations, managing student conduct issues, investigating and fact finding into various student related incidences, training student leaders and staff, overseeing educational efforts related to sexual misconduct, administering the Student Code of Conduct and Student Sexual Misconduct Policy, providing oversight and works in partnership with Housing and Residential Life conduct cases, serving as a member of the Poet Early Alert team (PEAP) and working with staff and faculty to resolve student concerns.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week Exempt Status: Exempt Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time Salary Range: $56,000-$66,495; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership:
Provides direct leadership for all aspects of the student conduct system, comprised of serving as the administrative hearing officer and the selection and training of the members comprising the Student Conduct Review board comprised of faculty, students, and staff. Work with the Associate Dean of the Faculty in administering the Academic Honest Policy.
Oversee the ongoing development and review of the Student Code of Conduct on an annual basis and update webpage.
Oversee restorative justice process for students. Train facilitators to assist students in restorative justice process.
In collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator, develop and implementing annual training for investigators and Conduct Hearing Board members.
In collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator, develop, implement, document and assess bystander intervention training and other sexual assault-related programming for all students. Oversee student efforts to educate their peers regarding sexual misconduct.
Serve as the first point of contact for intakes involving sexual misconduct allegations and ensure that Complainant and Responding Party are assigned support persons. Coordinate with the Dean of Students on the implementation of Interim Actions.
Review and update the student Sexual Misconduct Policy, protocols and practices with the Title IX Coordinator annually and make recommendations in compliance with OCR and Department of Education recommendations or directives.
As necessary, assist the Title IX Coordinator in the investigation process and in determining whether there is enough evidence to proceed to a College Hearing Board. Assist Title IX Coordinator in development of Title IX file.
Work collaboratively with the Title IX Coordinator to implement training for faculty and staff that enables them to respond consistently, sensitively, and effectively should a student disclose that they have been sexually assaulted or facing an issue regarding intimate partner/dating violence or stalking.
Meet on a regular basis with the Title IX Coordinator and the Director of Campus Safety to ensure that all responses incident reports related to sexual misconduct are coordinated and documented for Clery Act reporting purposes.
Oversee the Support Person Program (SPP) to identify, select and train of individuals serving as support persons to utilize campus and community resources to support survivors of sexual violence. Assess Support Persons annually.
Articulate specific, measurable learning objectives for student conduct, develop appropriate learning strategies and utilize effective means to assess learning and program effectiveness on an annual basis. Utilize outcome information to improve the delivery of services and improve the learning environment.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Students work with student organizations to ensure the adherence to the Student Code of Conduct and Sexual Misconduct Policy. Assist in organization investigations as requested.
Serves as a member of the Poet Early Alert team and other committees, as requested.
Serve in an on-call capacity, as scheduled.
Other duties as assigned.
Housing and Residential Life-Works in close partnership with the Housing and Residential Life team to manage conduct, investigate and adjudicate on-campus cases.
Office of Student Engagement- Takes the lead on all cases involving allegations of misconduct against registered student organizations, including societies. Partners closely and maintains positive working relationships with Office of Student Engagement (OSE) team members. Collaborates, consults, and maintains frequent/open communication with Office of Student Engagement throughout the life of a case.
Maintains connections with student organizations by attending events, assisting with programs, and representing the Dean of Students staff.
Serve as an effective liaison between the offices in, Campus Safety, Information Technology, Admissions, Financial Aid, Business Office, Dining Services, Facilities, Housekeeping, Grounds, Academic Affairs, Advancement, Conference Services, other Student Life departments and other departments of the College.
Serve as a member of the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT)
Serve as a member of the Hazing Prevention and Intervention Team
Serve as member of the Title IX Committee.
Serve as a member of the Wellness Coalition.
Represent the Dean of Students at events and meetings and respond to other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions of the Job: 1. Represent the College as appropriate in its relationship with the community, government agencies, professional organizations, and other groups. 2. Attend division wide meetings.
Position Specifications and Requirements: Previous Experience: Minimum of three years of professional experience in Student Affairs or closely related work experience in student conduct required; Four to six years in student conduct experience preferred. Knowledge of and/or experience in sexual misconduct investigations and/or adjudications. A commitment to the ideals of liberal arts education. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience in responding to student crises.
Knowledge and Education: Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field required. A strong intellectual framework for understanding and articulating issues of diversity and inclusion. A strong understanding of student activities and the role it plays in engaging students and contributing to their persistence and success
