Under the direction of the Director of Sponsored Projects, the Grants Manager is responsible for a broad range of pre- and post-award activities for a specific portfolio of sponsored projects at Columbia School of Social Work, including government, foundation, gift and institutional funds. The Grants Manager will work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to ensure compliance with sponsor and University regulations and policies
Work closely with PIs, staff and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) to manage the pre-award activities of a portfolio of sponsored projects:
Develop, review and submit grant proposals including budget creation, compliance review and other administrative aspects of the process.
Respond to sponsor requests for additional information about pending proposals, including National Institutes of Health (NIH) Just-In-Time requests.
Document proposal submission and track ongoing status.
Work closely with PIs and staff to manage the post-award activities of a portfolio sponsored projects:
Review new awards and communicate essential terms and requirements to PIs. Revise proposal budgets if necessary based on award notice. Provide project set-up documents to SPA to establish project account.
Manage project finances by reviewing and approving individual personnel and non-personnel charges for compliance and fund availability as well as by monitoring overall spending vs. budget. Anticipate the impact of expenses on overall project budget and notify the Director of any concerns. Prepare supporting financial summaries and other information needed for quarterly meetings with each research project. Investigate and resolve discrepancies with School and University offices.
Process salary distributions and cost transfers, including faculty buyout allocations and summer salary payments, in accordance with actual and/or anticipated effort, award requirements and University policy to ensure personnel charges are applied to sponsored projects in a timely manner.
Confirm for Human Resources fund availability for grant-funded positions including during the annual reappointment process.
Assist with annual effort certification process and compliance with conflict of interest requirements and other compliance reporting mechanisms.
Develop, review and submit NIH Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) including budget revision, spending projections, personnel effort calculations and other administrative aspects of the process.
Coordinate with Sponsored Projects Finance (SPF) to submit all financial reports to sponsors on time and in compliance with award requirements.
Develop and maintain fiscal year budgets for projects.
Maintain electronic files for active awards.
Maintain current knowledge of University and sponsor policies and procedures related to sponsored project management.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
