Job Summary: Under general supervision, provide comprehensive academic advising and support services on a wide range of often complex issues for approximately 450 undergraduate students. Responsible for interpreting, analyzing and implementing a wide variety of Academic Senate regulations and administrative policies in evaluating student petitions, assessing individual academic performance and progress toward satisfaction of degree requirements. Analyze and solve complex academic problems and refer students to campus community resources. Evaluate and approve transfer credits. Provide support for undergraduate program reviews, course approvals, catalog updates and related activities. Plan/coordinate undergraduate workshops, seminars, and conferences. Present at seminars, workshops, conferences, and training opportunities to support students.
Physical Demands: Lift/move boxes of educational materials weighing up to 25lbs. Occasionally travel to annual industry meetings. Work standard work week of Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm Work flexible schedule and occasional overtime including evenings and weekends to attend/participate in events and to meet operational needs. Work at computer for extended periods of time.
Work Environment: Work flexible schedule; work occasional varied lunch hours. Limited or restricted vacation during peak advising and admission periods and other programmatic deadlines. Work in a demanding environment with multiple deadlines, frequent interruptions, and noise from competing activities. UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Minimum Qualifications: -Experience advising undergraduate students in a university environment. -Experience with degree requirements and mandatory advising system to prepare official major certifications, assist students with academic plans, guide/track students through academic planning. -Experience with university, college, major, design, and general education requirements and their application to specific programs of major. -Skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives and to make public presentations, both formal and informal. -Analytical critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and determine appropriate level of advising or referral services for domestic and international students, providing immediate crisis counseling, including students in academic, financial, or personal difficulty. -Experience using automated student information systems. -Experience maintaining confidentiality of student records and knowledge of State and Federal Laws governing confidentiality of student records and University policies regarding Privacy of information. -Skills using a variety of computer software, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and web browsers. -Skill to develop, organize maintain and evaluate complex record-keeping system. -Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, divide and to determine percentages, ratios and estimates. -Knowledge of UC Davis applications, including BANNER, Student Portal System, DESII, Decision Support, OASIS, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: -Knowledge of food science, viticulture and enology, and textiles and clothing as it relates to students pursuing undergraduate study. -Experience preparing, submitting and maintaining department course offering using online scheduling and online evaluation applications. -Experience working with University course registration procedures. (SISWEB), student portal, and other information and forms available through the Office of the Registrar, Dean's Office, and other campus units. -Skills to obtain, correlate and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of sources; and to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedule, correspondence, etc. -Knowledge of admission criteria for new students and articulation agreements with other university/college, transfer, and international institutions and the applicability of credit from these institutions.
