Description Functioning under the umbrella of the Facilities Planning and Development Division at UC Davis Health, the Facilities Planning Department is responsible for advising and assisting UC Davis Health's leadership with the planning, oversight, and allocation of investments in future and existing capital and space improvements on the UC Davis Health Sacramento Campus. Facilities Planning (in coordination with the UC Davis Main Campus) provides guidance and oversight of UC Davis Health's Capital Improvement Program and capital project approval process; manages and advises upon the allocation of spatial resources and capital and lease investments; provides space utilization assessments and transition planning services; oversees real property (leased) as tenant representative; and manages the vast furniture project, inventory, and move logistics program for UC Davis Health.

Qualifications REQUIRED -Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Hospital Administration, Nursing, Business, Public Policy, or a related field and/or equivalent training/experience -Extensive experience in space planning/programming, facilities planning and/or asset management -Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient operations such as a patient care floor, emergency room, and clinic -Leadership experience to ensure specific healthcare operational outcomes -Knowledge of managed care environment -Familiarity with OSHPD and other California codes and standards applicable to healthcare facilities construction -Experience directing and coordinating consultants managing and participating in space and operational planning processes -Experience working with high-level personnel -Understanding of inpatient and/or outpatient operations with regard to care provider flow, patient flow, applicable facilities and space related federal, state and municipal regulations (including JCAHO and OSHPD requirements and University space-related policies and procedures) -Extensive experience providing analysis involving complex issues and data sources including analytical techniques, writing, metrics and data sources for assessing medical facility utilization
PREFERRED -Licensed Architect (AIA) with significant experience in health care facility planning and/or Master's degree in Health Care Management, Health Care Administration, Hospital Space Planning, Hospital Facilities Management, or related field -Knowledge of and experience with policies, procedures, and practices specific to capital projects and space management in a government, university, or healthcare environment -Proficiency in Construction Project Management software such as Compass, PMWeb and/or FacilitiesLink -Advanced experience with city planning, architecture, space planning, facility management or other planning-related fields -Advanced knowledge of the UCDH organization, including its architectural and space history, short and long-range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and future design and construction plans -Experience using Lean, Value-Based Care Redesign and other improvement approaches to enhance effectiveness of facility and space utilization.

Responsibilities The Medical Space Planner (Planning Specialist 4) leads, develops, and oversees large-scale planning efforts leading to the successful implementation of strategic and long-range space, operational, transition, and move logistics plans supporting the development of new and renovated inpatient and outpatient medical facilities for UC Davis Health's care programs operating within owned and leased facilities. Acts as a liaison between Facilities Planning and Development and all medical care and medical support departments to ensure the goals of these departments and their associated services are able to function within newly constructed and renovated spaces (with a focus on operational efficiency, patient satisfaction, and quality of care). The planner is responsible for assessing, managing, and preparing functional space and operational plans for proposed new and expanded program needs, managing inpatient and outpatient space and equipment needs, documenting and implementing operational and move logistics plans, and working with patient care staff and contract architectural/engineering staff during programing and design phases to increase the overall effectiveness of space utilization and the services delivered within such spaces.
