The Coordinator for Multicultural Affairs will provide oversight and direction to the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and student organizations affiliated with the Office of Multicultural Affairs (i.e., The Black Student Alliance, the Littleton H. Mason Gospel Singers, and the Hispanic Outreach Leadership Association). This position will help implement best practices, policies, and initiatives designed to enhance the overall growth and development of the council and student organizations and implement community wide leadership programs. The individual in this role will share responsibilities with the Assistant Director for Multicultural Affairs for the day-to-day operations needed to support NPHC and the student organizations. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Council Advisement (NPHC)
Actively advise the executive officers of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and hold regular one-on-one meetings with council leadership; attend weekly executive council and general assembly meetings for the council and oversee any council sponsored programs and events; serve as the primary advisor and point of contact for all coordinated recruitment/intake efforts for the governing council; hold regular one-on-one meetings with chapter presidents; develop and facilitate educational workshops for council officers, chapter presidents, general members and chapter advisors addressing relevant student and community issues; establish best practices for increasing student success indicators; aid in the management, compilation, and distribution of statistical information and reports; develop, implement, and enforce all University policies, including Fraternity and Sorority Life requirements around membership, reporting, academic excellence, etc.; help appropriately address and resolve conduct and risk management incidents; and assist with the management of chapter portals on MocSync.
Implement community wide programs to help foster a sense of community among all Greek organizations; partner with the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs to initiate fundraising and alumni engagement opportunities for NPHC and their member organizations; cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with affiliated students, chapter and alumni advisers, regional leadership, inter/national officers and headquarters, and community officials; collaborate with the Assistant Director and Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life to implement an accessibility initiative for council and community wide programs; assist with the development of all Fraternity and Sorority Life sponsored programs that impact the entire Fraternity and Sorority Life Community (i.e. Advisor Trainings, New Member 101 Trainings, FSL Town Hall Meetings, etc.); partner with the Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life to develop the curriculum and facilitate the Fraternity and Sorority Life Emerging Leaders Institute and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Executive Leaders' Summit for council and chapter officers; assist in the hiring, selection, and supervision of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Graduate Assistant and Graduate Summer Intern(s).
Office of Multicultural Affairs Duties
Assist in the development and implementation of programs that promote diversity and inclusion within the UTC Community including assessment of the programs and services; collaborate with faculty, staff, students and community members to promote the Multicultural Center as a hub for promoting diversity, cross cultural understanding and networking; assist with the Office of Multicultural Affairs Mentoring Program; and help develop short-term, long-term goals and objectives related to Multicultural Affairs.
This position requires evening and weekend hours. The Coordinator is a team member in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and will report to the Assistant Director for Multicultural Affairs. The ideal candidate will possess:
Knowledge of issues and trends relevant to fraternities and sororities
Knowledge of issues that impact the retention and matriculation of students from underrepresented populations
Knowledge of applicable standards, policies and best practices with the fraternity/sorority industry, particularly related to the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated skills in advising, organizational development, motivating students and conflict resolution
Proven ability to facilitate educational programs and/or workshops focused on issues relevant to fraternities and sororities
Ability to take initiative and work independently in setting priorities to ensure that responsibilities are carried out in an accurate and timely fashion
Ability and willingness to function as a member of a team
Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff and community members of diverse backgrounds
