The Graduate School ( www.graduate.umaryland.edu/ ) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month appointment as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer. UMB Graduate School Lecturer/Senior Lecturer appointments are long-term, renewable contracts and are eligible for promotion. Participate in strategic planning, implementation and outreach on behalf of the Physician Assistant Leadership, Learning Academy to advance Maryland state initiatives to improve PA Education
Represent UMB and the Physician Assistant leadership, Learning Academy at the state, regional and national
Demonstrate teaching excellence in Certificate and Master Degree education offered at the Graduate School
Deliver intercultural communication, leadership, health science research, quality improvement instruction to graduate students
Create, facilitate, interact and moderate classroom activities
Participate in professional development to enhance teaching skills, scholarship and service
Assure quality curriculum design, discipline, program and course continuity, currency, and relevance
Update course content and materials and/or delivery methods, based on information such as emerging medical practice changes in the discipline, instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and costs
Contribute to advancing the discipline as a leader through education research and service
Required Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of communication and dissemination techniques and methods.
Knowledge of medical discipline preference given to family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics and OB/GYN and the ability to translate theory and practice into learning opportunities that advance the Physician Assistant discipline.
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design principals, evidence- based teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and knowledge of measurement and assessment.
Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and organizational administrators.
Doctoral degree in Medicine with eligibility for Maryland licensure and completion of an accredited medical residency program in one of the following: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine or Pediatrics.
or a Masters prepared Physician Assistant from a regionally accredited institution with current NCCPA certification.
Two years' experience in discipline with expertise in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine is required.
Experience in healthcare and knowledge of behavioral and population health is preferred.
Two years teaching experience is required with a proven record of excellence.
Experience in curriculum development is preferred.
