Reporting to the Director of Marketing Services in the Office of Marketing & Strategy at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Assistant Director serves as a key member of the team responsible for implementing integrated content marketing strategies and tactics that support DCE's program portfolio, including Harvard Summer School, Harvard Extension School, Harvard Professional Development Programs, and Harvard's Institute for Learning in Retirement. The Assistant Director leads the team responsible for content, UX, and development for DCE's public-facing websites. In alignment with defined marketing strategies, the Assistant Director partners with the marketing services director and brand marketing directors to develop content strategies that build awareness, nurture leads, and convert prospects. Partners with brand marketing directors, creative staff, and freelance contributors to create various content for digital channels, including website program pages and landing pages, advertising, blogs, email, and social. Other responsibilities include:
Oversees and executes testing strategies, including A/B testing, online version optimization, personalization, and social media/email integration to ensure continuous traffic improvements.
Create and maintain a digital asset library.
Writes or edits a variety web content, including landing page copy, program copy, blog posts, downloadable guides, etc.
Supervises process for ongoing site QA and governance, including management of cyclical web updates/messaging, periodic site audits/evaluations, and ongoing training or workshops as needed.
Maintains guidelines for brand voice/tone, editorial style, and visual style to ensure consistency across sites and platforms—serving as editorial advisor for marketing projects/collateral.
Oversees ongoing user and audience research, and assesses results in conjunction with website analytics. Translates findings into actionable recommendations, and directs execution.
Manages relationships with key stakeholders across DCE throughout major web projects, including redesigns, app development, etc. Helps establish and optimize workflows between team, marketing directors, and departmental stakeholders.
Responsible for supervising direct reports and supporting their professional development.
Manage projects, including defining objectives, roles, and timeline; delegating and tracking tasks; involving relevant stakeholders; and ensuring all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities serving about 30,000 students annually. The Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement allow Harvard to serve the learning needs of students across their life. For more than a century, Harvard Extension School has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 16,000 students per year in approximately 46 graduate and undergraduate liberal arts and professional fields. More than 1,500 open enrollment courses are offered year-round with over 600 available online are offered at affordable prices to our communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 450 courses on the Harvard Campus to 10,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members and Harvard Professional Development Programs offering 80 short noncredit courses to almost 4,000 learners annually.

7+ years of progressive experience in content, web, or marketing role.
Must have demonstrated experience in content marketing, website development, editorial writing and have experience developing and implementing marketing communications plans, along with a proven track record.
Management experience with integrated marketing, data segmentation, and analytics/reporting is required.
Demonstrated record of success in positions of progressive responsibility in marketing for a complex and fast-paced organization.
Should also possess the ability to set priorities and manage competing demands. Experience working in higher education or a strong interest in and knowledge of the educational landscape related to nontraditional students and lifelong learners is preferred.
Experience using content management systems (Drupal/WordPress) a plus.
Strong project management skills required.
Other required skills include:
Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working with Excel numbers/statistics, previous experience creating digital strategy, and personnel management.
Working knowledge of Google Analytics.
This role will oversee four direct reports.
Though a self-starter, the candidate must be able to work as part of a larger, complex, and evolving team and to balance the interests and needs of a variety of stakeholders.
