The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking a Career Development Manager . This position's primary focus is to assist staff with their professional growth and development. With a commitment from campus leadership, this position will work closely with Human Resource Services, the Office of Community Engagement, campus and community partners to create and identify training and professional development opportunities for staff.
The Career Development Manager will serve as an adviser, planner, coordinator and collaborator for career services for the purpose of building and developing a high-performing and engaged workforce. This position will provide career counseling to employees enabling them to identify job advancement opportunities and training. This position will also design and develop a structured career development program including career exploration and job search skills training.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Responsible for effective leadership, administration, coordination, and accountability for career services in Human Resource Services.
Design, develop, and lead the implementation of the career development strategy for the University. Coordinate cooperative education programs and specialized outreach programs.
Deliver comprehensive career exploration and career planning services and programs to UMB employees. Provide career counseling and career assessment administration and interpretation.
Represent UMB with state and local agencies and community groups focused on career development. Identify and partner with external resources to obtain grant or other funding to support career development programs. May include grant writing, submission and management.
Disseminate employment, mentoring, and training opportunities for employees throughout the UMB community. Establish relationships with employees regarding questions and issues regarding recruitment, professional development, and education enrollment.
Partner with other campus departments to implement new initiatives to increase staff development and career readiness.
Lead and manage specialized internal and external programs and events to heighten awareness of careers. Maintains contact and exchanges information with community, government and higher education partners to ensure pathway opportunities are available.
Perform data management duties to record and monitor participants' progress through the program. Prepare reports and correspondence as necessary.
Perform other related duties as assigned, such as participation in various committees.
Education: Bachelor's degree in field and/or related field. Master's preferred .
Experience: Four (4) years of related experience, such as career counseling, coaching, educational instruction, or program development and management to position required.
Certification: Career coaching, workforce development, or career counseling certification preferred.
Supervisory: Two (2) years of work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses a thorough knowledge of job progression and advancement for employees and able to perform position in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with work strategies and professional development trends and influences. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology. Maintains productivity and uses knowledge strategies to enhance career development role. Able to make independent decisions that are a matter of significance for the unit.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Demonstrate pleasant and positive interactions with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Reaches compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate. Remains calm and is able to manage conflict, and works well with a diverse workforce. Approachable style allows others to be open in sharing thoughts and ideas.
This is a regular, full-time position.
