Counselor/ Sail Program California State University, San Bernardino
Overview Employment Status: Full-time (12-month - September 1, through August 31st), temporary, 'exempt' position through August 31st (position may be renewed based upon available funding, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).
Salary: $4,179-$4,550 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening hours, extended workdays and weekends.

Typical Activities Under the supervision of Director, the counselor provides a wide range of counseling services to program participants. The incumbent will orient project participants and manage a student caseload. Specifically, the SAIL Counselor will:
Provide academic advising, career, financial aid and personal counseling.
Facilitate students success through the development and implementation of various programing/workshops
Provide support for students experiencing concerns regarding academic advisement, course selection, and degree evaluation.
Provide guidance and personal counseling related to self-awareness, personal growth, and academic probation that facilitates the continuation of students towards degree goals
Conduct workshops related to effective learning and study techniques as well as applicable non-cognitive factors that affect student success.
Audit, monitor, and evaluate student academic progress and assist students in overcoming academic challenges
Assist with the planning and implementation of cultural and educational enrichment activities as well as special events.
Make presentations regarding program services to faculty, staff, students and the community.
Participate in individual and team professional development, remains current with technology used in advising
Perform all other duties as assigned.
A Master's Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports
Experience working with diverse student populations
The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and other campus departments.
Have the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Have the ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of campus programs and services and the policies and procedures that govern the position and the project.
Have experience working with educational equity programs, preferably TRIO programs desired.
University student services experience, preferably to traditionally underrepresented students (e.g. advising, admissions, counseling services, student programming or development)
Experience with facilitating counseling groups
Familiarity working with school-based records/data systems/software (PeopleSoft, EAB)
