New Jersey State Library seeks social workers to fill two temporary, two-year grant funded part-time (3 day per week) positions. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, staff in these positions will provide direct services to returning citizens in public libraries in New Jersey and Philadelphia during a two-year grant funded project, Reconnecting Returning Citizens with their Communities in Public Libraries. Hourly rate: $40/hr.
Examples of essential job functions:
• outreach to community service providers • schedule and coordinate community resource fairs • assess individual returning citizens for primary needs and personal goals • provide referrals to library classes and programs and occupational skills training • provide linkage to additional services as needed • communicate with staff at library sites • Document service accurately and timely while ensuring returning citizen confidentiality • Maintain project records and data and submit weekly reports to the Project Manager
Skills and Abilities:
Skills in: screening, assessment, service planning, life skills teaching, computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google office software
• Work closely with library staff to develop and coordinate monthly community resource fairs • build rapport with returning citizen participants • manage relationships with a broad range of community organizations • manage work at multiple locations • communicate effectively with project team members • work independently and as part of a team • be trained in various technological hardware and software applications
Education and Experience: Preferred Master’s degree in Social Work or required minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Work combined with at least one year experience in providing case management services. Preferred prior experience with clients in correctional facilities and/or court systems.
Mobile position: must be able to travel between library sites to deliver services. Specific location assignment of each social worker to be determined upon hiring; site locations during both years include Paterson, Newark, Trenton, Long Branch, Bridgeton, and Atlantic City, with the addition of a Philadelphia library branch in year two. Driver’s license with acceptable driving history required.
