The Graduate School of Education is seeking a faculty member for our Higher Education sector. The Master's in Higher Education is part of this sector along with the Ed.D. All these programs aim to cultivate scholar practitioners in their work in Higher Education. This sector attracts students who are passionate about exploring ways they can make the world a better place and improve the practices for students in Higher Education. Through an experiential approach these students prepare to be impactful practitioners in higher education. Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position to teach in our innovative online Doctor of Education and Master of Education in Higher Education Administration programs within the Graduate School of Education. The Graduate School of Education programs are located at the intersection of theory, research and practice and foster the development of scholars in practice. Both programs aim to support professionals from a variety of fields and contexts to develop the skills and intellectual acumen to effect change and innovation, to question systemic norms, and to anticipate and shape a more equitable, globally connected society. The position offering is a full-time, non-tenure track, one-year renewable appointment as an Associate Teaching Professor. Candidates for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position with the Graduate School of Education must demonstrate extensive curriculum development experience, commitment to and a successful record with graduate teaching at both the master's and doctoral levels with a diverse student body, experience with and enthusiasm for the online context and its opportunities with regard to graduate work, and the capacity and desire to play a leadership role with a vibrant full and part-time faculty. The candidate will also serve as a Dissertation Chair for up to 20 doctoral candidates, as well as a second reader on additional 40 committees. The candidate is expected to participate in GSE committees, in our annual student convenings and to be a collaborative member of the M.Ed. and Ed.D. faculty teams in addition to a member of the sector. The position is based online, and most GSE faculty are remote. There might be some travel to Seattle, WA or Charlotte, NC for hybrid courses or convenings. Courses are taught fully online and a thoughtful comfort level with online instruction (Blackboard is employed) is critical. Faculty enjoy a collegial work environment that allows for work-life balance and are expected to be available to students online as needed for their course and dissertation work. Faculty contribute to the College's mission through teaching, service and scholarship. The faculty member will report directly to the Faculty Director of the Higher Education sector. Actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach assigned courses and develop course content and materials. Blackboard certification through Northeastern University Online is required prior to teaching. Supervise dissertations, support students through their 12-18 month work in thesis with online thesis modules.
Service to the program/college/university. This service includes teaching, student advising, faculty mentoring and program support.
Participate in the curriculum development and assessment process.
Share course materials and related observations with other faculty members.
Be an advocate for students.
Keep up to date and in contact with employers regarding appropriateness of course/program content.
Participate in faculty recruitment and mentoring.
Participate in new student events such as open houses, info sessions, and orientation.
PhD or relevant doctorate in education or a related field
5-10 years professional experience in Higher Education Administration
Strong record of graduate level curriculum development
Experience working with adult learners
Online course development, facilitation and innovative use of technology in support of learning
Experience teaching and/or researching topics related to enrollment and/or financial management preferred.
