This university is currently seeking a Vice President for Finance and Administration / Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The CFO will oversee the University’s business and financial operations, and supervise the functions of Human Resources, Physical Plant, Environmental Services, Public Safety, Controller’s Office, and General Services. The CFO provides accurate and timely financial information internally to the President, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), other executive officers and the Board of Trustees, and to specific external constituents as needed and/or required by law. The CFO operates in a shared governance environment and will need to be comfortable in collaborating and communicating with faculty and staff concerning key budget issues, especially with those serving on the institutional budget and planning committee, chaired by this position. The same would be true for the strategic planning committee for which this position is a member.
The incumbent in this position is formally responsible for setting policy associated with the job's purpose and essential responsibilities. Routine decisions include managing staff; approving purchases of plant and equipment; conducting financial analyses; and formulating and implementing policies. The incumbent in this position has supervisory responsibility for an Associate Vice President for Finance; Director of Physical Plant; Director of Public Safety; Environmental Services Administrator; General Services Manager; and a Director of Human Resources.
Essential areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
Chair of the Planning and Budget Committee and directing process for developing annual operating budget
Serve on the Strategic Planning Committee as a key member who will collaborate with other members in setting strategic priorities that will ultimately influence budget and resource decisions.
Advise President and other executive staff members on University fiscal issues and cash flow management.
Oversee all budget and contract issues with vendors for new construction and renovation.
Review, advise, edit and decide on approval of all significant contracts that obligate the institution.
Manage, supervise and evaluate departmental leadership within the division.
Negotiate and serve as principal university contact with vendors on building, insurance, and legal services, working with appropriate legal counsel and other trusted consultants as appropriate.
Develop and approve policies and processes within operational areas of control. Recommend university policies and procedures to presidential cabinet team, as needed.
Serve as university liaison to Board of Trustee committees assigned to the division.
Candidates should have a proven track record of success in managing the fiscal and business related administrative functions of a similar size college and/or other business entity, with preference to non-profits. Candidates should also demonstrate these qualities:

Financial acumen across various areas, including cash flow management, investments, fundraising, financial reporting, etc.
Appropriate education and certification, with a Masters degree and CPA certificate being preferred, and/or significant experience in the field.
Basic knowledge of and ability to negotiate contracts
Basic knowledge of human resource law and regulations.
Basic knowledge of legal issues effecting higher education
A sensitivity and appreciation for a culturally diverse educational environment.
