STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Director of Veterans Center provides vision, leadership, and administrative direction to the college's initiatives regarding the support of veteran students and their families, particularly through the collaboration with the college's many centers, including the Women's Center, Multicultural Center, and LUSO. The Director ensures that the center facilitates a network of support and resources for veterans on campus, and initiates and maintains collaborative linkages to other Bristol Community College services and community resources. The Director works closely with the Dean of Enrollment, the Director of Student and Family Engagement, and the Director of Advising to effectively help lead the college meet its key performance indicators regarding student retention. Ultimately, the Director works collaboratively across the college to ensure the practice of shared governance and transparency, while helping to move the college towards comprehensive, innovative solutions to empower and meet the evolving needs of the Bristol community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises one part-time MCCC advisor and one full-time AFSCME Clerk IV.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide vision, leadership, and administrative direction to the college's initiatives regarding the support of veteran students and their families, particularly through the collaboration with the college's many centers, including the Women's Center, Multicultural Center, and LUSO.
Facilitate a network of support and resources for veterans on campus; initiate and maintain collaborative linkages to other Bristol Community College services and community resources.
Work closely with the Dean of Enrollment, the Director of Student and Family Engagement, and the Director of Advising to effectively help lead the college meet its key performance indicators regarding student retention.
Track institutional progress against that of peer institutions, and incorporates best practices into campus initiatives.
Infuse and actualize an assessment strategy, in partnership with Institutional Research and Academic Affairs, to measure veteran student learning, effectiveness, and satisfaction to improve retention and persistence.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for the Veterans Center while monitoring and evaluating operational effectiveness and affecting changes required for continuous improvement.
Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan, including the use of digital channels such as social media, electronic newsletters, and/or websites.
Provide timely reports and analysis to college leadership, including the President's Leadership Team, Student Services and Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Research.
Build, administer, and evaluate the Veterans Center budget. Work closely with the Student Services and Enrollment Management leadership to develop annual budget proposals.
Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that supports the professional growth of staff, the Bristol Community, and the veterans it serves, while fostering a commitment to excellence.
Work collaboratively with college leadership to recommend and implement tactics that ensures the achievement of prescribed retention goals.
Implement technological resources that scale, amplify, and measure department program and service efforts, in partnership with Information Technology and Marketing & Communications.
Serve on various leadership councils for Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Actively engage with professional organizations to stay current on professional development, higher education trends, and best practices.
Lead and serve on various college committees, including the Transfer Scholarship Committee, as needed.
Conduct regular performance evaluations to ensure continuous improvement and identify potential opportunities for growth. Work closely with Human Resources to create talent development plans and implement appropriate performance improvement plans.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Minimum of a Master's degree in higher education or related field and experience in a higher education environment that demonstrates:
Progressive leadership and administrative experience, with at least three years of experience as a Coordinator, Assistant Director, or Associate Director in a Veterans Center or related Student Affairs area, such as a Women's Center, Student Center, Athletics and Recreation, and/or Student Activities or Leadership Development.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of veteran student development, event planning, and budget management.
Demonstrated successful collaborations across college divisions to build effective relationships,particularly with the Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, and Information Technology areas.
Demonstrated ability to strategically manage and grow department human and capital resources.
Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission and serving the needs of veteran students.
Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of shared governance and transparency.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office business software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
A commitment to embracing diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Demonstrated external relations experience with community organizations and agencies, as well as with K-12 schools.
Comprehensive, multi-campus community college experience.
Demonstrated technology experience with Ellucian Banner, EMS, Degree Works, and other related software packages.
Demonstrated expertise and commitment related to assessment and continuous improvement of enrollment, retention, and/or student services operations and programs demonstrating diversity, inclusion, and equity outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to develop and use predictive modeling and data analytics to enhance veterans retention initiatives.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
Relative connection to a/or multiple underrepresented groups including that of race, culture, and/or identity.
Service as a military veteran.
POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, 10-month (August through May), non-unit position with benefits that requires working some nights and weekends to meet the needs of veteran students and their families.
SALARY: Hiring salary $50,000 to $55,000, commensurate with education and experience, paid out over 52 weeks.
