The Student Services Administrator reports to the Director of Student Affairs and joins a team of other outstanding and dedicated professionals in Student Affairs. The Assistant Director specifically supports students and student organizations while also serving as a student activities and event planning generalist.
The Student Services Administrator for Student Involvement/Engagement, delivers and evaluates programs and creates and oversees co-curricular engagement for all Peabody students, with a special focus on the needs of off campus and international students. This individual will also be responsible for innovative initiatives that support curriculum building around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Promoting an inclusive and stimulating campus environment where all students have a personal sense of belonging and are active, engaged members who contribute to Peabody and greater community, the Assistant Director for Student Involvement/Engagement encourages active involvement in campus life; builds and supports effective student organizations; develops and guides emerging and experienced student leaders; and implements large-scale student programs such as Overture, Peabody’s New Student Orientation program.
Serve as primary point of contact for registered student organizations.
Advise student organizations in relation to program development and planning inclusive of Peabody’s student government (PGA).
Evaluates and reports on program outcomes.
Develops Collaborative Partnerships with student organizations, Peabody departments and the respective Homewood Student Affairs departments.
Collaborates to develop and implement new training modules that enhance the capacity of JHU student leaders to:
Work with diverse populations
Engage in thoughtful interactions around issues of inclusion, intersectionality and identity.
Works with Diversity and Inclusion offices (Campus Ministries, Women and Gender Resources, Office of Multicultural Affairs, and LGBTQ Life) to create and implement an intergroup dialog program among interested student organization members and other participants.
Supports/Advises representatives from other multicultural student organizations as they plan and implement the annual JHU Cultural Celebrations.
Advise an International Student Coalition organization that supports institutional engagement and addresses concerns within the population.
Empower development of intellectual, cultural, and social programming that purposefully compliments the academic curriculum and serves a cross section of the student body.
Attend PGA’s open meetings and attend all major events
Oversee PGA's annual goal setting, budget preparation, and leadership training with special attention to risk management, inclusive programming and fiscal responsibility.
Advise and support the responsible and ethical expenditure of annual budget.
Contract and coordinate all College and student organization sponsored programs.
Develop and maintain robust guidance, procedures and tools for student events and event planning.
Assess student and student organization needs and develop resources to meet evolving needs.
Develop and execute the in-person and online pieces of the Peabody orientation program, Overture. This includes the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Orientation Leader (OL) staff. This is a large scale and critical student affairs event.
Develop and runs Welcome Week
Serve as on-site evening hours coordinator.
Supervise student workers.
Serve as a risk reduction mechanism for student organizations to ensure appropriate procedures, insurances, waivers, security, financial safeguards, and best practice logistics are utilized to promote safe and risk averse programs and environments.
Provide event planning and operational support to student organizations.
Meet with student leaders as necessary to support program development including vendor and service procurement, navigating campus logistics and systems, and contract review.
Review and approve student organization material use to ensure procurement of appropriate licenses and permissions; including film and TV public viewing licensure, and music usage licenses with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR.
Develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations related to student activities including NACA.
Support and advise a senior class council and their programs including the Grad Gala.
Hire, train, and evaluate a graduate assistant to serve the needs of Student Organization onboarding, large scale event assistance, & other duties as assigned

Develop and manages annual budget.
Supervise student staff.
Maintain appropriate areas of the department webpage, Peabody app, and social media presence.
Research best practices and peer institutions on an on-going basis in order to evaluate current student development program offerings and to identify areas of need and growth.
Advance diversity education work (Train the Trainers) through key cultural immersion/competencies that recruit faculty and staff around supporting students and cultural identity.
Represent the office for open houses and orientations.
Assess trainings, initiatives, and programs produced.
Complete other tasks and initiatives as assigned.
Provide leadership in all areas related to student engagement and work collaboratively with the Student Affairs team.
Assist in developing ongoing evaluation of the student experience.
Assist with supporting campus events such as Commencement.
Serve in an Administrator-on-call rotation, handling crises and other related matters, as a back up to the Associate Director of Residence Life.
Work collaboratively to advance the marketing and online presence of the Student Involvement specific content within Student Affairs.
Complete other tasks and initiatives as assigned.
Minimum 3 years working directly with college students, student services, higher education administration or other related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extend permitted by the JHU Equivalency formula.

Master’s degree in student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a similar master’s program that prepares individuals to work directly with college students.
3-5 years full-time post masters experience
Experience in professional student organization advisement, budget management, organizational development, conflict resolution skills, excellent organizational skills, strong orientation to detail, high level of comfort with technology, and professional level production experience.
