New Jersey Medical School is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant-Surgical to join our new multi-specialty practice located in Bergen County, NJ in partnership with CarePlus Bergen and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. The successful candidate will join the growing Department of Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School located in Newark NJ. Under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physician the Physician Assistant-Surgical will provide ambulatory and inpatient care on the New Bridge campus in Paramus, NJ. The Physician Assistant-Surgical provides direct clinical care to patients in general adult population, supports the surgical program including but not limited to: assisting in inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, rounding with surgical attendings, providing post-operative care and management, and providing on-call (off site) coverage for surgical consults and emergencies. The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing exceptional, patient and family centered surgical care, innovative education and training for the next generation of surgeons; while advancing surgical science across the spectrum of basic, translational and health services research.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care, and managing infection.
Prescribes and administers appropriate medications.
Assists with inpatient and outpatient surgical cases across a broad range of specialties.
Provides off-site unrestricted call coverage during off hours.
Completes all inpatient and outpatient medical assessments, clinical documentation, medical orders, laboratory and consult reviews, plan of care, treatment reviews, and summaries in a timely fashion.
Provides an education to patients, as it relates to their medical condition.
Assures implementation and ongoing status of recommended treatment.
Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provisions of continuity of care.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
Provides services in accordance with the Center for Disease Control infection guidelines, Federal, State and Local laws and the Quality Improvement Program standards.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her individual judgments and actions.
Maintains and submits documentation of current medical licensure, DEA registration, and CDS certificate.
In conjunction with the medical staff, develops and maintains all requirements related to regulatory agencies of the Local, State and Federal Governments.
Reviews entire EMR chart during encounter and documents inpatient and outpatient encounter in the EMR.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Physician Assistant-certified (PA-C). Graduated from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory Committee.
In the case of a new graduate, they may be considered under the condition that he/she successfully takes and passes the Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and the New Jersey License examination from the State Board of Medical Examiners—Physician Assistant Advisory Committee on the first available date following his/her graduation.
BLS is required.
All requirements must be met prior to employment with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Credential Required: Licensed, or eligible, by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners.
Current DEA and CDS Registration.
NCCPA Board Certified or Board Eligible Physician Assistant.
Two (2) years of experience.
