Department: UNIVERSITY EXTENSION - 027025 Department Description: UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the academic division of the university dedicated to workforce and career development. CPE helps professional working adults upskill, reskill and advance their careers. CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis, and also works with employers and local experts to develop programs targeted to regional needs for economic development. More than 1,500 professionals teach in a wide array of specialized practice domains, including outstanding faculty from across UC Davis. Last year, CPE recorded nearly 62,000 enrollments in more than 4,200 classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. CPE also manages the university's relationship with Coursera, a leading MOOC platform, and has taught hundreds of thousands of students through this partnership. CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. CPE employs over 230 employees (career, academic, contract and limited) and more than 60 student employees.

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean/COO, the Financial Services Director exercises day-to-day oversight of financial and accounting services for the division's 200 FTE and $40+ million budget. Manages financial planning, budgeting and reporting, accounting, purchasing, payroll, contract and grant administration, and fiscal risk management. Serves as divisional controller. Significant responsibility for analysis of financial data serving as subject matter expert on cross-divisional business intelligence team to advise academic and operational partners in optimizing financial performance.
Work Environment: Restricted vacations during fiscal close (June-July) and grant deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications: Eight or more years of experience in public sector accounting, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, contract management and reporting for a large, complex organization.
Experience identifying financial data needs, thinking critically, and analyzing complex data including querying large databases and downloading data.
Knowledge of financial technologies and systems, and business analysis skills to define user requirements and advise on systems development.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) financial accounting and reporting guidelines, and Federal Contract and Grants Administration policies, including Cost Accounting Standards and Office of Management and Budget Circulars.
Knowledge of fund accounting and governmental laws and regulations as they relate to Extramural funds.
Skill in strategic thinking to identify creative approaches, adapt ideas, articulate plans, problem-solve, and make decisions.
Experience setting strategic direction, developing well-reasoned and on-target plans, obtaining buy-in, and motivating all to successfully complete projects and reach goals.
Interpersonal communication skills to establish cooperative working relationships as well as to disseminate complex information clearly and concisely while maintaining confidentiality and using good judgment and diplomacy.
Exceptional organizational and management skills. Skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience managing/supervising people to motivate and ensure quality work.
Experience analyzing work flows and designing efficient business processes.
Computer proficiency in using word-processing, e-mail, web browsing tools and advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet software such as MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of UC Davis accounting and related policies and procedures.
Experience working in a university-based administrative position, preferably in continuing and professional education.
