The Assistant Director of Veteran Affairs is responsible for developing and refining co-curricular programs for the Patriots' Casa. Major responsibilities Include: targeted student marketing, recruitment assistance via direct contact and through influencers and gatekeepers, improving hand-off steps In the student veteran , admissions process, information sharing regarding VA and State of Texas military-related scholarship-related and other quality-of-life assistance benefits, orientation for new and returning military community students, referral of students for specialized advising services, and assisting faculty and staff provide appropriate support and care for military community students. Will also be responsible for providing excellent customer service to prospective and current students from the military community. Provides support for major efforts such as: JROTC to TAMU-SA ROTC connectivity, Patriots' Casa programs, SVA, Medal of Honor presentations, and scheduled presentations, expos, events and initiatives that benefit or support the military community students and/or their families. This position has supervision responsibilities.
Responsible for coordinating the full range of services for military-connected students and prospective students, including Veterans Affairs educational benefits, student recruitment, student registration, and student support services along with advising that enhances student persistence and graduation. This position will interact with all University employees to remedy or mitigate individual student's non-academic situations and/or concerns. Provide training, support, and regulatory updates to departmental staff as needed. Interact with other offices and external stakeholders as necessary for the successful execution of departmental responsibilities related to providing Veterans services.
Develop, implement, and maintain service programs to meet the needs of student Veterans, both collaboratively with other departments/entities and independently. Conduct peer program reviews and participate in association conference/workshops to Identify best practices. Assist in scheduling guest speakers and organizing off-campus service opportunities for our campus.
Interpret and maintain knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to Veterans affairs. Monitor institutional compliance with such policies, procedures, and regulations through established internal audit mechanisms. Prepare for external audits by State Approving Agency and/or Department of Veterans Affairs. Ensure office operates within established key performance indicators.
Provide leadership to the University's Student Veterans Association, encouraging their interactive sharing of information, helping student leaders shape educational and social opportunities to strengthen bonds among SVA.
Assist the Director In departmental planning and policy development. This includes maintaining current operational manuals, establishing communication plans, and creating/updating departmental web pages and publications.
Assist with the planning and execution of outreach events related to Veterans services and education benefits. Prepare written correspondence/reports such as letters to veterans and the VA, reports on veteran recruitment efforts, and annual report to state seeking approval to train veterans. Assist In the presentation of workshops/olientation for students/community/faculty and staff over VA resources and guidelines.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience working in a veteran affairs office in a higher education.
Some certification experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Word Processing, spreadsheet, word, excel, Banner, VA Once.
Experience serving veterans, ability to effectively communicate with military community as well as all levels of management.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent customer service to students, employees, and the community .
Ability to multi task, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to move items up to 50 lbs. as a part of recruiting and marketing tent display responsibilities.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's license in order to operate a vehicle for university or system business.
