Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Screening Clinician for Acute Psychiatric Services (APS).
The primary purpose of the Screening Clinician position is to perform psychiatric emergency services, screening, and screening outreach assessments as well as other mental health services. Provides generic crisis assessment of individuals of all ages (birth through 65+ years), assists in determining the need for any additional professional consultation, and devises an appropriate intervention/disposition plan.
Identifies the appropriate level of care disposition from skill based knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria, clinical expertise and departmental criteria.
Collaborates with medical staff to make the best assessment, provides the highest quality care and develops an appropriate screening outcome.
Utilizes person, family and agency information to determine an appropriate screening outcome for persons served.
Involves person, family and significant other in developing a plan for disposition.
Provides coordination and on-site interaction with outside/other agencies involved in the screening process (e.g., police, state hospital, Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCP&P), Children's System of Care, Emergency Rooms and other UBHC Programs).
Collaborates effectively with other staff members and referral sources.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in a mental health related field from an accredited institution and one (1) year post-master, full-time professional experience in a psychiatric setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to work off hours shifts in the 24/7 operation, provide holiday coverage and work alternate weekends.
Must be eligible to receive the New Jersey State Certification as a Mental Health Screener within one (1) year of employment.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Licensure to practice as required by New Jersey state laws governing the discipline.
