VUMC is seeking an attorney to serve as the lead counsel to VUMC's large and growing supply chain and GPO operations. The ideal candidate will have.
a strong background in the purchase and sale of goods and services within the healthcare industry;
first-hand experience in contract drafting and negotiation;
experience representing GPOs, members of GPOs, vendors negotiating with GPOs or procurement organizations within the healthcare industry;
familiarity with anti-trust analysis and vendor relationships; and
a demonstrated ability to function in a strategic role in support of a client's business objectives.
This position will serve as the primary strategic and legal partner to the VUMC procurement department including in the development, deployment and operation of various service lines under consideration or development. This position will carry the title of Division Counsel and will work within the VUMC Office of Legal Affairs, reporting to a Managing Counsel and the VUMC General Counsel. This position will function as a partner in the operation of current business lines and in the strategic development of additional business lines for this service area.
While having a focused area of responsibility, this position will function as a member of the broader Office of Legal Affairs for VUMC in collaboration with other attorneys with a myriad of background and experience. Support for other departments within VUMC may be involved from time to time as relevant to the attorney's expertise and availability.
Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years' experience representing healthcare organizations or vendors to the healthcare industry. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of federal and state regulatory schemes impacting contracting and procurement, and GPOs specifically, in a healthcare and government contracting environment and have an ability to apply those laws to provide practical, real world advice in support of a customer's specific business requirements. The successful candidate will be a good negotiator with e xcellent oral and written communication skills and will have the ability to work independently within a dynamic and fast paced environment. Excellent client management skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands will be necessary.
Support the procurement activities of a large academic medical center as well as procurement services provided by VUMC to other providers;
Advise clients within VUMC on the relevant regulatory schemes involved in procurement activities and services as well as other areas in which VUMC may contract, including professional services;
Support the development and structural organization of various business lines involving procurement contracting;
Monitor changes in relevant regulatory areas and provide education on those changes to business and operational personnel and compliance and legal affairs teams;
Draft, negotiate and advise on procurement and other general contracts;
Develop and maintain appropriate template agreements to maintain efficiencies in contracting where appropriate;
Provide regulatory support and assistance on contract and transaction matters in which VUMC may engage; and
Provide guidance and assistance to other colleagues in the Office of Legal Affairs in a highly collaborative and team oriented fashion.
Work with and manage outside counsel in an efficient manner relative to this position's areas of responsibility.
