The Pharmacy Technician works collaboratively with providers, staff, and patients to process medication refills, prior authorizations, and patient assistance program applications for Christiana Care Primary Care and Family Medicine practices. This position is day/evening rotation and weekends as required. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Pharmacy Technician, works in an office setting acting as a liaison between providers, pharmacies, and third party prescription insurance plans to proactively address administrative barriers that may prevent patients from receiving their prescription medications in a timely and safe manner. The individual is a member of the Outpatient Pharmacy Services team that works within established processes to assist Christiana Care Primary Care and Family Medicine providers in: -Reviewing and validating prescription refill requests -Resolving third party prescription insurance plan prior authorizations, step-therapy edits, and other questions of prescription affordability -Enrolling and coordinating patient enrollment in pharmaceutical manufacture sponsored patient assistance programs EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: -High School Diploma or equivalent required -Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification as a certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) required -At least one year of community/specialty/mail order pharmacy required; other pharmacy experience will evaluated for equivalency -Knowledge of government sponsored and commercial prescription insurance program formulary and utilization management edit processes (e.g. prior authorizations, step-edits, etc.) -Demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional patient experience -Ability to type and perform basic math calculations -Computer experience preferred -Basic typing skills
