Reporting to the VP External Affairs and Brand, the Director, Advancement will champion a robust, comprehensive fund development strategy on behalf of NorQuest College. Working in collaboration with the Executive Team, Management Team and Board, the Director will support the continuous improvement of NorQuest’s external relationships, in particular with donors, in alignment with the vision set out in Imagine 2025 (https://www.norquest.ca/about-us/strategic-plan.aspx).
The Director will be responsible for the fund development strategy including the development and delivery of all campaigns (ie. alumni, capital campaigns, 1000 Women etc.); the entire donor relations cycle from acquisition to stewardship; and supporting the External Affairs & Brand portfolio.
As NorQuest enters into the next phase of its growth, they are seeking an entrepreneurial leader who will support the College by championing an innovative and comprehensive advancement strategy.
Stakeholder Relationship Leadership:
Develops, in collaboration with the Executive Team and Management Team, a plan/framework to expand and nurture the college’s network of prospects, donors, advocates, and partners; and
Facilitates the college’s efforts to cultivate and establish formal and informal partnerships/strategic alliances with educators, businesses, industry, government and communities.
Fund Development Leadership:
Serves as resource to the Board and President in developing and implementing a College fundraising plan;
Assumes the formal role of Foundation Director;
Primary relationship holder for key donors and fundraising committees (e.g. Campaign Cabinet, 1000 Women Advisory Committee etc.);
Establishes a donor plan that will develop and sustain an effective relationship between the College and its alumni, both staff and students;
Manages fundraising campaigns, including developing and executing plans, managing resources, compiling research and conducting special events;
Develops and executes strategies for all fundraising efforts (ie. capital campaigns, 1000 Women: A Million Possibilities campaigns, annual giving campaigns, major gifts, planned gifts, internal fundraising campaigns, grant writing, on-line giving, faculty-based fundraising etc.); and
Develops leading-edge donor recognition and donor stewardship programs.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director provides leadership and management to the division that aligns with the College’s overall Comprehensive Institutional and Strategic Plans;
Contributes to College policy and procedure development to ensure a consistent message in keeping with College values, our student needs, and external legislation;
Integrates and coordinates activity across the college in alignment with college direction
Ensures that college and divisional direction and requirements are shared with the Advancement division, manages budget and expenditures for division, and has accountability for leadership of the entire division.
Leads and supports staff development.
FIRST YEAR DELIVERABLES / MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:
Develop a comprehensive advancement strategy for NorQuest that includes all aspects of fund development including capital campaigns, 1000 Women: A Million Possibilities campaigns, annual giving campaigns, major gifts, planned gifts, internal fundraising campaigns, grant writing, on-line giving, faculty-based fundraising etc.;
Develop strong relationships with existing stakeholders, partners and donors and demonstrate an ability to proactively seek new relationships; and
Build strong, supportive internal relationships with the Executive team and staff; demonstrate a leadership style that is supportive and open while holding the team accountable to deliverables.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Business Administration Degree or equivalent; and
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset.
Minimum ten years’ of progressively responsible leadership experience;
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute on a fundraising strategy; and
Track record of success in securing significant philanthropic gifts or sponsorships in the public sector.
