The City of Pasadena Public Health Department is seeking a dynamic public health professional with a breadth of experience in multiple facets of public health to serve as Deputy Director of Public Health. This position functions as an Assistant Department Head and is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day administrative and programmatic functions of the Public Health Department; acts in the absence of the Director of Public Health for non-clinical services. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to personnel administration, public health staff development, contract management, legislative analysis and programmatic functions. This position works closely with community groups, City staff and officials, Federal, State and local government bodies to communicate policy or procedure.
The ideal candidate will be an expert in public health administration, preferably have experience in a public health department, and demonstrate strong operations experience in strategic planning, human resources, fiscal administration, contract compliance, policy development, and facility management. To succeed in this role, candidates must be strong communicators with strategic vision and leadership to drive the sustainability and development of Pasadena public health programs and services. Experience with public health accreditation is highly desirable, as the Pasadena Public Health Department is accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board.

Assists in the planning, administration, and implementation of a variety of public health and environmental health programs of the City in conformance with provisions of the Health and Safety Code of the State of California, the City's health and sanitation code and other related laws, standards and regulations.
Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day management functions for the Department, to ensure department-wide support and maintain compliance with city policies, procedures and processes.
Supervises senior level management personnel; guides the selection of staff; establishes and communicates department goals and performance expectations.
Monitors community public health needs, division resources, legislative mandates and grant-funded requirements; assists with strategic planning, goal setting and policy development to establish and maintain programs and services that meet the needs of the community.
Participates in the preparation of recommended public and environmental health legislation and codes and testifies or represents the Public Health Department at City Council meetings, legislative committee hearings and other City, state, and federal bodies as directed by the Public Health Director.
Develops and oversees policies, programs and activities for community education and public information.
Guides and oversees the preparation and administration of the municipal budget for the Public Health Department; directs the preparation and execution of all grant budgets; oversees all grant reimbursement and invoicing activities.
Coordinates public health related activities with those of other agencies.
Executes and oversees service contracts and assures proper monitoring of contracts and programs.
Researches and prepares special projects for the Director, including grant applications, reports, policies and procedures.
