The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.
The Associate Director, Donor Agreements is responsible for managing the donor agreement process and developing systems and procedures to ensure compliance with donor intent. This position will draft donor agreements, secure internal review and approval, track donor agreements, and manage the donor agreement department administration to include database management of academic, accounting, administrative, budgetary, financial, governance, legal, policy, and tax issues, as they arise.
Additionally, the incumbent to this role will manage and facilitate training sessions for Advancement colleagues on the donor agreement process and issues. As part of this responsibility, this individual will provide guidance on the donor agreement process to colleague on an as-needed basis.
The Associate Director, Donor Agreements reports directly to the Senior Director. The position works directly with the following staff and offices in order to ensure that donor agreements are aligned with University policies and related legal and tax requirements: Advancement leadership, development officers, development associates and other support staff, advancement services staff, Office of the University Counsel, Office of Financial Affairs, the President's Office, Office of Student Financial Services, Office of the Provost, Office of the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences, Deans' offices, and faculty members.
The Associate Director, Donor Agreements will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Donor Agreement Management:
Manages the donor agreement process for standard donor agreements. Assists the Senior Director with drafting and reviewing donor agreements of medium to high complexity.
Exercises judgment when agreements appear to be problematic or in noncompliance with industry and University policies. In such cases, consults with the Senior Director and other relevant offices.
Identifies when a requested change to a donor agreement is substantive or non-substantive in nature, from an academic, administrative, financial, or legal perspective.
Advises development officers on matters related to donor agreements, including, but not limited to, potential administrative, financial and legal issues, and refining giving opportunities.
Oversees a system for tracking the progress of all Georgetown donor agreements as they pass through the various stages from creation to completion.
Oversees the signature process for donor agreements.
Oversees the worktag request process.
Executes and manages reporting.
Documents the donor agreement management process and updates the "Issues" document, which notes donor agreement issues and their resolutions.
Assists Senior Director in implementing processes that will ensure compliance with donor intent.
Educate Advancement colleagues on the donor agreements process and issues related to donor agreements, through regular training and on an as-needed basis.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of relative experience; previous paralegal and/or legal experience is a plus.
Strong ability to understand legal, financial and accounting concepts, and substantive vs. non-substantive changes to contracts.
Expertise with Google Docs and Excel.
Familiarity working in a database and knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to adapt communication style for various audiences; strong proofreading skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to manage and organize a significant amount of information and data.
Flexibility and adaptability in a deadline-driven work atmosphere.
Team-oriented and highly collaborative.
Excellent customer service skills.
