Resources for the Future (RFF) is currently seeking an effective, strategic and experienced Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) to lead financial and administrative operations and serve as the corporate Treasurer. Reporting to the President & CEO and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the VPFA will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for RFF’s diverse portfolio of financial management, human resources, facilities, information technology, contract management, investments and other operations. Advise the President & CEO and other members of the leadership team on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, human resources, information technology and other organizational policy matters. Working closely with the leadership team, develop and implement creative financial management and talent acquisition and retention strategies.
As corporate Treasurer, serve as the liaison to the Audit and Compliance Committee and Investment Committee of the Board.
Contribute to the development of RFF’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance and accounting, human resources, and information technology teams.
Oversee investments, including endowments and unrestricted reserves.
Manage relationships with outside counsel, investment advisors, bank, audit firm, property manager and government payors.
Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process and multi-year financial planning.
Provide analytical support to RFF’s leadership team and others with financial management responsibility.
Improve financial and administrative services.
Promote a culture that values inclusiveness, engagement, diversity, high performance, continuous improvement and a commitment to quality and integrity.
The VPFA will be a seasoned leader with a degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, a CPA or advanced degree, and a minimum of 10 years of broad finance experience, including at least 7 years in financial or operational leadership positions in a not-for-profit organization.
Demonstrated experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to the CEO, senior managers, and Board of Directors.
Experience working with independent audit firms.
Possess an intimate knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices and standards. Understanding of government contracting, foundation grants and managing complex revenue streams.
Experience working with financial systems and managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources.
Experience in oversight of investments, familiarity with endowments and restricted gifts. Experience working with investment advisors and a Board Investment Committee.
Experience in oversight of real estate investments, including leasing.
Experience overseeing management of human resources, facilities and information technology.
Experience with 401(a) and 403(b) plans and the IRS requirements.
Solid experience supervising staff and working collaboratively in a management team environment.
Experience managing implementation of new systems, software and working with information technology staff.
Experience with finance and accounting software packages.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, interpersonal skills and good judgment.
Excellent analytic and abstract reasoning, problem-solving and organizational skills.
Strong business partner who has successfully negotiated favorable terms.
