Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean III, Supervisor for Student Affairs. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The Assistant Dean III provides strategic vision, leadership and management for the dynamic Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISS) that provides comprehensive services to over 1600 international students and scholars and their dependents. The Assistant Dean III is a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team that is committed to supporting student success and actively advancing best practices. The duties includes but not limited to; -Oversees Rutgers University-Newark compliance in relevant areas of federal regulations and administration of regulatory and cultural services and programs for the University's international students and scholars. -Collaborates with University leaders, faculty and staff to develop, coordinate and implement University policies and procedures related to both regulatory and the advising dimensions of campus life for the international students and scholars. -Serves as a primary resource for the University units involving in enrolling and/or employing international students, researchers and visiting faculty. -Active in regional and national professional organizations, specifically NAFSA, Association of International Educators. -Responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating OISS staff and managing the office budget. Minimum Education and Experience:
-Requires Master's degree in education administration, student development, or related field. -Also a minimum of three years' experience with increasing responsibility in a leadership or managerial role including supervision of staff and budget control in international programs and services management in a university setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Expert knowledge of federal immigration, labor, social security regulations governing international students and scholars and best practices in supporting international student and scholar success. -Extensive knowledge of and hands-on experience with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and immigration batch system such as Ellucian or SUNAPSIS. -Experience with intercultural affairs and excellent cross-cultural communication skills a must. -Active membership and participation in NAFSA including leadership roles. -U.S. citizen or permanent resident status is required by law to serve as the PDSO/RO.
-Ph.D. preferred; -Immigration law practice or paralegal experience; -Fluency in or familiarity with a second language, as well as personal experience studying or working abroad.
-Personal computers, with the most recent operating systems, since reporting to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security is done via the Internet. Additional a firewall must be in place to ensure security to prevent hacking.
