The person in this position will work on one or more of the externally funded social or educational research projects at the Peabody Research Office (PRO). We are seeking a programmer who takes initiative and can collaborate across disciplines. The main project on which the person in this position will work involves a collaboration between education researchers, community partners, and engineering students and professors. This NSF-funded 4-year project involves the development of a progressive web application (PWA) to facilitate data collection and instructional coaching in early education settings. We are seeking a computer programmer who will write code to implement app functionality. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills and be proficient in the ReactJS programming language and others.
PRO provides assistance to faculty and students, of Peabody College, in developing research proposals to outside grant agencies, develops tools for standardized budgeting, and provides oversight management of sponsored programs. They also provide training in pre-award and post-award grants management. It is essential that you contact this office several months before the submission of a grant. They have experts who will guide you through the process, create the spreadsheets needed for the budgets and submit the grant using web-based portals that are required for government and large foundation grants. PRO also regularly sends out notices of competitions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Writes code to implement functionality for PWA
Collaborate with engineers, community partners, and education researchers to create a progressive web application
Write relevant code; identify and correct bugs; streamline functionality
Assist in developing associated training materials (e.g., programming of animated training videos/tutorials to be featured online)
Assist in developing dissemination/promotional materials targeting both researchers and practitioners
Supervise undergraduate engineering students who participate in programming as part of course credit
This position does have supervisory responsibility over student employees; the position reports administratively and functionally to the Administrative Officer.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
A Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
At least three years of directly comparable experience is necessary.
Proficiency in ReactJS is necessary.
Proficiency in additional programming languages is preferred.
Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty is preferred.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities is preferred.
Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data is preferred.
Skill in collecting, analyzing, verifying, and manipulating research data is preferred.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments is preferred.
