Experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of dairy; experience with robotic systems and with fieldwork is preferred.
Maintain, repair, and operate the robotic milker and other mission essential equipment at the farm.
Responsible to help other herdsmen manage the college's organic herd and livestock groups to include robotic maintenance, planned grazing, herd health work, and some field work.
Maintain the grazing paddocks, laneways, and fences for the organic herd and livestock groups.
Conduct daily pm chores to include feeding, maintenance of calves and heifers, maintenance of the free-stall cows, livestock groups, and other animal at the farm.
Responsible (with other farm staff) to maintain the appearance and operation of the farm and ensure a safe environment for students, faculty, other staff, and visitors to the farm.
Responsible to preform and oversee afternoon chore shift, supervise student interns, and student shadows.
Responsible for heat watch and other reproductive practices.
Assist in policy and procedural development to streamline processes and provide best practices for students.
Responsible to work some holidays and weekends in conjunction with the other farm staff, in addition to afternoon and evenings.
Adaptability to run herd management software and receptive to learning new technologies to improve productivity and profitability of the farm.
Two or more years of recent, active, and relevant farm experience.
