POSITION OVERVIEW The Kodiak Island Borough Engineering & Facilities Department is accepting applications for the fulltime, exempt position of Solid Waste Manager/Environmental Specialist. This position is directly responsible for the overall management of the Borough solid waste management activities including, planning, organizing, budgeting, administration and implementation of the Kodiak Island Borough Solid Waste Management and Leachate Treatment Plant activities which includes collection, recycling, source reduction, and disposal of hazardous, asbestos, toxic and infectious waste. Directly responsible for landfill/baler operations, personnel, and budget. Administers contracts for solid waste services including recycling, collection, and construction. Acts as liaison with federal, state and local agencies regarding EPA, OSHA, DEC and DOT requirements, and assures timely application and compliance with all required regulatory permits.
KODIAK Situated in the northern Gulf of Alaska, just east of the Alaska Peninsula, Kodiak is the second largest island in the United States measuring more than 100 miles long and nearly 70 miles wide. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the area assigned, including three (3) years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
