The Carpenter performs skilledcarpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair and alteration ofbuilding structures and facilities following recognized procedures andtechniques of the carpentry trade. The Carpenter practices preventivemaintenance of carpentry tools and equipment, and complies with federalregulations governing safety, environmental protection, hazardous wastedisposal and the use of chemical substances and materials common toconstruction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uses hand and power tools such as saws, hammers,chisels, levels, drills, presses, sanders, table saws, joiners, planers, woodlathes, mortising machines and related carpentry tools to perform skilledcarpentry work.
Performs construction of new walls, hangs sheetrock anddoors, installs hardware, ceiling grids, tile, tile floors, and base mold;finish and trim.
Completes assigned carpentry maintenance and repairtasks with quality workmanship.
Assembles, fabricates or builds, and installsmaterials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work; provides estimateof repairs or replacement and recommends the use of additional departmentalpersonnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completiontargets.
Protects University property and equipment from damageduring carpentry repairs.
Restores office areas and facilities to the originalcondition at the completion of work. Cleans workareas, machines and equipment.
Practices preventive maintenance of carpentry tools andequipment by performing spot checks of equipment.
Complies with policies, laws, andregulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous wastedisposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to carpentrywork.
Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new orreplacement carpentry shop equipment.
Contributesto the overall success of the department by performing other essential dutiesand responsibilities as assigned.
