Under the direction of the Director of HR and Strategic Planning and the Manager for Academic Affairs, the incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to coordinating the academic activities for the Department of Pathology & Cell Biology. The Coordinator for Academic Affairs will coordinate the academic credentials for academic and clinical faculty, postdoctoral fellows, trainees, and visiting appointments. The incumbent will coordinate the medical staff appointments for all credentialed faculty, fellows, and others, as needed. Interpret operating and university; exercise independent judgment in resolution of credentialing issues.
Oversees in conjunction with the manager, all aspects of appointments and credentialing for faculty, fellows, medical staff, and others.
Develop, implement and maintain appropriate departmental policies and procedures related to executing the credentialing process in accordance with Columbia University (CU), Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S) policies, government regulations and guidelines.
Create credentials-related reports for the Manager, Chairman, Administrator, Departmental Credentials Personnel, Committee Chairs, Division Managers, Division Chiefs, Search Committees, etc.
Manage hospital credentialing and reappointment process.
Educates and informs faculty and divisional personnel about faculty affairs policies and procedures.
Create manuals, flow charts and other educational material related to Academic Affairs efforts in the Department.
Maintain existing database.
Assists the Chair's Office with the Committee on Appointments and Promotions (COAP) and Tenure process.
Maintain the electronic faculty files, including licensure and compliance.
Maintain and create tracking processes for appointments, promotions and medical staff appointments.
Serve as liaison between the Department and New York Presbyterian Medical Staff Administration, the Office of Faculty Affairs and other external departmental academic offices.
Provide information to the Departmental Billing Office about prospective appointments to the compliance officer.
Aid the Education program by providing support to the program's coordinator relating to the fellowship and residency programs.
Track and ensure compliance with respect to I-9 processing, annual trainings, HIPPA, Conflict of Interest, Medical Surveillance, Visa Status, etc.
Review, editing and posting faculty and research positions on the University's Recruitment of Academic Personnel System (RAPS) website.
Responsible for other regulatory matters
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Ability to be extremely well organized, with careful attention to detail and follow up
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of faculty and staff.
Knowledge of computer programming, particularly in the development and implementation of databases.
Ability to manage a number of demanding projects simultaneously.
Word, Excel, Databases, and Power Point skills.
